GMail Login

Hi there, i know that this is still experimental, but maybe it help you guys to figure out Bugs as well.

So when i want to activate the experimental feature on both iPhone and PC i enter my gmail as usual. But it keeps saying that either name or email are wrong.

I've tried only my prefix name without email suffix, as well as the whole name. And yeah, im pretty sure its the right password, im entering it every day :).

Windows Streamer(v1.4.0.4) currently gets an issue which will automatically add or change suffix @gmail.com for user's gmail account. It'll prevent user's login if it's not xxx@gmail.com. We are fixing it in next update. Please wait for our update and welcome to check back our website for formal announcement.

Please let me know if I misunderstood.

BTW, this link gives more info about gmail login fail issue may help for your case.

well okay. but there is one thing that still baffles me then. 1. ive noticed this issue as well on the app itsself. it also adds the suffix. 2. why is that a problem anyway? because when i use my mail for registering at forums xxx@gmail will work too. i know that i used to register my gmail mail as a xxx@googlemail.com but wheres the difference then?!

The issue has been 'half-resolved'. The new Splashtop Software for Windows got an Update giving me the opportunity to register with xxx@googlemail.com instead of the automatic xxx@gmail.com. And it worked. Now the iOS Splashtop has to be update too. Then i think everything will work just perfectly. Just hang in there guys, i think they will fix it soon.

Don,

Programs that use Google Logins typically do not store login information anywhere but the app you put it in. Their servers receive information about the computer to know its IP Address and location, but the credentials of your google account never touch them.

Toby, that sounds great in theory... however I wouldn't mind having it confirmed by Splashtop. Perhaps they might add a disclaimer on the Internet Discovery setup page for transparency.

@Don,

As Toby mentioned, Splashtop Remote never touch the credentials of your google account , it leverages GoogleTalk capability to connect your ipad and computer.

@All who got Internet discovery fail:

1.The latest iOS version v1.4.5.3 already fixed the @googlemail.com issue.

2. If you're actually using the internet discovery feature but unable to connect successfully, please refer the suggestions below:

  •  Make sure you have successfully logged in Gmail on both Windows Streamer and iPad app
  • In case of some iPad apps may cache memory and cause abnormal crash and result. Suggest you to close unnecessary apps from your iPad and reboot your iPad once. (Please d-click "Home" button on iPad and it would appear a multi-task bar. Tap and hold the app until close icon appears and close it)
  • The connection ability sometimes might relate with network bandwidth over the internet. Especially if you're using a 3G network, the signal looks excellent but you will not realize easily how many clients are sharing the bandwidth at the same time. In the case, you might try the connection later after peak time or try to connect other network(like wifi) and see if any difference.
  • Change the resolution setting to 800x600; it'll help to decrease the transmitting data rate. See the link about change the resolution: http://support-remote.splashtop.com/entries/266287-how-can-i-change-the-screen-resolution

Hope this helps!

Thanks Jaff for that information. The server and the app are both excellent programs. But i'll just mention it again, after the update to 1.4.5.3, I can not always get logged into my gmail account. I still have the previous version on my iphone and the newer version on my ipad. The old version, will log in to gmail quickly and almost every time. But with the newer version on my ipad, it take me many tries to get logged in to my gmail account. And this will happen if I'm sitting at a hotspot with both devices right there at the same time.

On the ipad, I just keep pressing the "sign in" button under internet discovery. I have my email address and password saved so it's not like I'm typing it in wrong.

usually what will happen on the ipad (with the new version) while i'm in the internet discovery menu, I'll get a message in red, letting me know sign in failed. Then I click the sign in button again. I have to repeat this anywhere from 10 to 20 times and usually I'll finally get logged into my gmail account. On the iphone, I get logged into my gmail account right away on the first try. Actually it logs me in automatically.

But just for everyone's information, once I get logged into gmail, everything works perfectly. I can connect to my home computer, my office computer, it just works great. Only the gmail sign in seems to be having a few issues since the last update. I hope this helps some of you out there.

Thanks to the Splashtop team for a great program and app.

I can not log in to Gmail on the windows side.

I am pretty certain that his is due the use of two-step verification not being supported on the client.

I will test this with a disposable password later.

I have now tried with application specific passkode. It works.

May I recommend that Splashtop implements a check for two-step verification? You could add a link to the google page that shows how to make an application specifik passkode.

(the same kode can be used on your desktop as well as on your Ipad).

i'm having the same issues.  with the old version and the new version -- just loaded.

I am able to log into my google account through googletalk on my computer.  I'm able to do everything else with my google account.

on my ipad it logs into my gmail.com account jsut fine.  But the streamer just spins when I click login and then stops -- no error or anything.  I have tried like a million times -- nothing works.

I would think that if gtalk works -- this should too??  Since you say you use the gtalk transport, etc.??

I also tried iTeleport (check it out in the app store) -- it also uses a streamer and gmail account for internet discovery -- and it worked right out of the box...on the same machine, etc.

maybe everyone should try out iteleport -- they seem to have their act together??

TF: I think Your are experiencing some user-based errors. Unless You have activated 2-step verification, you should be able to log in normal. If you do use two-step verification, you can check out the tutorial here:  http://www.google.com/support/a/bin/answer.py?answer=175197

Gmail - based discovery works for me, even through the byzantine network setup at my work  - and from 3G. I now have several machines I can log in to, and they all show all the time.

My google account is NOT a @gmail or @googlemail account but is based on my normal domain pop box email account. @brighststone  - I too cannot login. Does it absolutely HAVE to be a @gmail.com account?  The login area says google account, not gmail account. Please advise.

@Peter Eduard,

Thanks for great input, I've sent your findings to our engineering for further investigation.

@Dean Pierce ,

If you are using new Internet discovery with a gmail account in your Android device, please make sure you have added this account in your device/Google account. only the accounts added in that list can be used for Spalshtop Remote gmail login.

@Deon,

It should be able to login a @googlemail.com account, what device you are using? and version? We just released Streamer for Windows and Mac. (both are v1.5.0.1)

With both last updates (Splashtop Streamer 1.5.0.1 on Windows 7 64bits and Splashtop Remote 1.5.0.0 on iPhone 4):

I have the same issue:

If I am connected at home, through my local network, my gmail login works fine. But if I am connected over 3G or hotspots, I can't get logged into my gmail account. After waiting for few minutes, it keeps saying my user name or password is incorrect.

It's a very nice app, and I hope, we can use it soon outside of our homes :-)

@sTfan, sounds like you have the exact same setup as I do. When I first started using Splashtop, it all worked perfectly, both on my home network and form an outside wifi hotspot and on 3G from my iPhone. And it also worked fine with my iPad 2. Then came the first update and I couldn't get logged into my gmail account from outside my home network. Shorty thereafter came another update and all was working again but I couldn't get logged on to my gmail every time. It would take 10 to 20 tries but eventually it would log in. I havent tried it yet since the most recent update (July10 or 12, don't know exact date) but I'm hoping I can get logged on more quickly. It's an excellent program and app and the guys seem to read these messages daily to resolve any of their issues. It's not always the app, sometimes it just that the user doesn't have everything configured properly. I've would and do tell everyone about this app. Keep up the great work guys.

Hi all,

There is a known issue : gmail login will fail on Mac Streamer v1.5.0.1 with long password over 16 characters or 2FA authentication password. It's fixed in next update, please stay tuned.

For those who failed on Internet discovery feature:

If you're actually using the internet discovery feature but unable to connect successfully, please refer the suggestions below:
1. Make sure you have successfully logged in Gmail successful on both Mac/Windows Streamer and iPad app

2. In case of some iPad apps may cache memory and cause abnormal crash and result. Suggest you to close unnecessary apps from your iPad and reboot your iPad once. (Please d-click "Home" button on iPad and it would appear a multi-task bar. Tap and hold the app until close icon appears and close it)

3. The connection ability sometimes might relate with network bandwidth over the internet. Especially if you're using a 3G network, the signal looks excellent but you will not realize easily how many clients are sharing the bandwidth at the same time. In the case, you might try the connection later after peak time or try to connect other network and see if any difference.

4. Change the resolution setting to 800x600; it'll help to decrease the transmitting data rate. See the link about change the resolution: http://support-remote.splashtop.com/entries/266287-how-can-i-change-the-screen-resolution

I just purchased the application for my Transformer.  It worked great the first time around.  I have 2 networks in my house and was able to connect to one and remote my PC on the other.  Then i disconnected and went back in and my PC did not appear.  I went into my settings on the Transformer app and it said my gmail credentials were incorrect or check my internet connection.  All is fine with my internet and i know that my credentials are correct.

Is there currently an issue going on or something?

HI, I just bought an ipad and this app.  Last night at my home wifi network I installed the streamer on my personal laptop and was able to connect from my ipad just fine.  But both devices were on the same wifi network.

Ultimate goal is to use my ipad on my home wifi to remote in to my work laptop which stays docked at work.  I set it up today, but am not able to connect to my work laptop by traditional method nor with gmail method.  Whenever I try to login from the streamer with gmail login, it doesn't work.  Password is 8 letters length.  I don't know what to try?

I downloaded everything yesterday so I have the latest versions.

Yes it is the atest version downloaded from your site. I am running Little Snitch, but I have allowed Splashtop, anyway I have turned it off and still no luck. I use Sophos Anti Virus but that is not a firewall so should be OK. Can I change the port? If so to what? My iPhone connects fine with my login and yours also!

I can't think of anything else that might be conflicting or stopping me connect!

@Tony,

It seemed the port 5222 Gtalk used is blocked in your networking, if you want a try, please use a standalone of Gtalk program (can be downloaded from Google) and try to login from it again.

Mail client and browser use another ports.

BTW, your iphone uses 3g to login gmail?

Hi,

I have 1.5.5.1 on the iPad and 1.5.5.2 on my Windows Xp machine.  On my local wireless network, it works great (even sound!), but when I try to do the gmail thing, nothing happens.

When I try to sign in on the Windows box, the button doesn't change--it just sits there and very briefly I see the the busy cursor spinning, then it disappears for second, then reappears, endlessly.  It's as though the connection isn't really taking.

I run Norton Security Suite and the firewall setting have automatically put five rules in for Splashtop, one for an updater service, two for the Streamer, one for Streamer Feature, and one for Streamer Service.

The iPad version seems to work fine for logging into gmail.  I test it by using my Android phone as a modem, which works fine.  It's only the Windows side that it doesn't seem to connect.

If this could get fixed, it would be awesome--very pleased with the product otherwise.

Thanks.

Just updated to Streamer 1.5.5.4, but it didn't make a difference.  Still can't connect via gmail.  Bummer.  Makes it pretty useless to me, actually--if I can connect on my home wireless, what's the point?  I'm already home.  Will probably give LogMeIn Ignition a try.

Working great now.  Uninstalled Norton security suite and put McAfee in its place, and logged right on through gmail.  Sweet. Typing this through that connection now.  ;)

Not sure what was wrong with Norton, but it must have been blocking e PC's connection.

@Tony,

When you use Internet discovery feature to remotely connect your computer but fail, please try the following suggestions:

1. If your tablet/phone is far from the router around you(different routers may have different distance limitation), the signal will be weak and easy to cause connection fail. Try nearer case to see if it's better.

2.basically, use Internet discovery to remotely connect your computer won't need to do ports forwarding, but we also got user feedback they only can connect after open ports.

3.check the router which your computer is connecting, make sure the firewall on it is disabled.

4.uninstall then reinstall Splashtop Remote app on ipad side

5.before making connection, please logoff gmail then login again on ipad side

6.If you are using 3G network, sometimes the 3G signal looks excellent but you will not easily realize how many clients are sharing this bandwidth at that moment. In this case, you might try the connection later after peak time or try to connect other network and see if any difference.

7.lower your computer resolution to 800x600 to see if there's any difference

@Tony,

Our latest streamer got an known issue which needs more bandwidth to connect to streamer. 3g usually shares bandwidth with others who enabled 3g in a same location and easy to fail to connect. We are improving this issue, please try again in another time slot or location. Sorry about this inconvenience.

@Adrian,

Have you disabled the firewall on your mac? or have you installed any security/anti-virus software like DoorStop, Virus Barrier? please also disable them or add Splashtop as trusted list. This link tells how to disable firewall on Mac:

I've read through all of this and see related but not identical problems so I'm hoping you can help. I have a Xoom (3.2) and current versions on both my desktop and my xoom as of today. I have a gmail account but it is Jason@customdomain.com. I can't log in to the internet discovery on either my desktop or my tablet - I get "Login failed. Please verify your credentials and network connection and try again." Yes, my credentials are correct. My password also contains special characters (supported by gmail). Since I get stonewalled on both devices, I have to think it has to do with not having the @gmail but I see plenty of places saying that is no longer an issue.

Any ideas would be VERY much appreciated.

Guys I have struggled with this for months, i finally dumped Splashtop and went with another app. But in the meantime I found that the issue may not be splashtop, it may be gmail. If I go to https://accounts.google.com/DisplayUnlockCaptcha and unlock gmail from the location, I can almost always get logged in. I read that it's a gmail security thing, so people don't log into your gmail account from places that you normally don't log in from. Once you unlock the "place" it should be okay. You may have to unlock it each time, I'm not sure about that. I get my email at home from 3 different computers, at my office from numerous computers and then my iphone and ipad. So I have to do a lot of unlocking and so far I haven't figured out why I have to do it over and over again. It seems to me that once I would unlock it at a certain place, eventually I have to do it again. I think gmail (or google) makes you do this every time you have a change in IP address. But again, not sure if this is it or not. But try the unlock site I listed above from the location you can't get logged in from. And see if that works. Sometimes I have to do it on my home computer also to get Splashtop to log in on my computer. And then do it again when I get to my location with my ipad/iphone. Sorry this may sound confusing, but I'm in a hurry this morning and didnt' want to take a lot of time composing this note.

Hi there. I have he same Gmail issue. Splashtop streamer cannot connect to Gmail (endless spinning wheel) from my office computer (Windows XP behind proxy server). I can connect to Gmail from my office computer without any issues. I have an Ipad 2 home: Ipad connects to Gmail without any problems. I tried various recommendations described above but no result: wheel keeps spinning. I want to control my office computer from home through Ipad 2. Other issue is the IP address thing: Under the splashtop streamer (statuts onglet) I have the following message: "You can now use your mobile device to connect to his computer" with what seems to be an address IP. I entered this address IP into my Ipad app but I got a message saying that device cannont connect with my computer. Is the Gmail thing and IP address thing two different ways for connecting PC and Ipad or both of them must work? Sorry for various questions but I purchased the app only for the purpose of controlling my work PC with my Ipad @ home, and I cannot do it. Any solutions? thanx a lot

Splashtop Streamer (Windows) will not connect via the Google method behind my corporate firewall and policies. The same failure to connect holds for the iTeleport Windows app which uses the Google method, and it offers three ways to connect to Google: HTTPS, HTTP, and XMPP.  One might think this is now becoming more of a Google issue, except...

The Windows Jump Desktop App does achieve access to Google just fine and thus lets me connect through my corporate gauntlet via their iPad client.

So, something can be done to fix this problem. Let's fix it!

I have to add I have the problem too. I can connect to my PC from my touchpad within my network, but as soon as I try to log in from out side it doesn't see my PC's. I am running 1.6.5.3. If I try to log in it just sits and spins. I bought this product at full price) so I could log into my computers remotely as I travel all over the country. If it only works in my house, then I feel like I have wasted my money on a product that does not work as advertised.

I read both posts prior to my original post. To be clear:

(1) Splashtop between my iPad and PC work just fine outside my corporate environment.

(2) Bring both my PC and  iPad into my work environment and the exact hardware, settings, etc. that worked outside cannot connect to gmail inside the corporate environment.

Jump Desktop which also uses gmail works both outside and inside my corporate network on the exact hardware, settings, etc.

@Jim,

Not sure how Jump Desktop done on gmail, Spalshtop Remote needs port 5222 opened for gmail login, please consult your office IT if they blocked this port by security concern.

@U,

We are sorry about this known issue, when your gmail account has been logged in by Splashtop Streamer or other tablet/phone, your friends will see you as logged-on state.

Our engineering is trying to improve this, welcome to check back our website for further announcement.

I am unable to log in to my Gmail account with Splashtop Remote Desktop (v1.6.5.6 r16450) on my HTC EVO 4G phone and also on my Windows 7 PC using Splashtop Streamer (v1.7.0.4).  I did try the test gmail account and it was successful.  Do I have to open ports 6783-6785 and 5222 in both my Windows 7 firewall and in my wireless router's firewall?

If the test gmail account was successful, then I shouldn't have to open any firewall ports...right?

@Bill,

Basically, you don't need to specially open ports on router if you can successfully login your gmail credential, however, we also got few users told us need the ports opened. Another factor to cause Splashtop Remote blocked is the firewall from anti-virus software, please check this link to be a reference to adjust the settings for Splashtop Streamer if you have installed anti-virus.

@Bill,

If you can't login your gmail but can by our test gmail, please try to unlock your gmail from this URL to see if there's difference:

I finally got Internet discovery to work by adding a period between my first name and last name in the login email address and using my normal gmail password.  (The period is NOT part of my normal email address for my gmail account!!)  I could not get it to work using my normal gmail address and password.  I discovered the period by noticing that I was signed in somehow on Splashtop Remote with the period in my login email address.  This is wierd, but now it works great!!

@John, Where's your boss pc located? If it is at work, please consult the IT if most of ports including 5222 used by gmail were blocked. This will make gmail unable to log in.

@John,

Firewall issue from anti-virus software is another check point, please check this link to get some hints from our collections.

Another suggestion is let your boss pc use your gmail and connect to a same router as your pc connected to see if there's difference.

(blocked message by replying a NOREPLY mail address by user--John

Hi Jaff, the bosses ipad seems to be logging in intermittently, sometimes it logs on straight away, other times it won`t login atall...i don`t want him using my email address. We tried it with his old gmail addy and it worked ok, then started doing the same thing, hence the new gmail. Mine works perfect everytime. I`ll keep persisting and sooner or later i`ll suss it out.

Thanks
John

My problem is similar though slightly different.  I can enter my gmail account info on my personal laptop just fine, thereby allowing me to access that particular laptop from anywhere (provided that i have internet access).  But for some reason, all the other computers that I work with (both my work laptop and my work desktop)--pretty much any other computer I've attempted other than my own--will not accept my usual gmail login info.

This strikes me as even more peculiar because the same info is being entered in both places,and I am absolutely sure of my login and password info.

New user here.  On a Kindle Fire and Win 7 pc. I have this same problem as the poster above: "My google account is NOT a @gmail or @googlemail account but is based on my normal domain pop box email account. @brighststone  - I too cannot login. Does it absolutely HAVE to be a @gmail.com account?  The login area says google account, not gmail account. Please advise."

@Alan Gornik,

The exact description should be google account which can be logged-in for google services like gtalk. In addition to xx@gmail.com and xx@googlemail.com, if your email address has been formally recognized by Google(usually got from company), it also can be used to login on Splashtop Remote.
If you don't have a google account, we suggest you can apply one and used for Splashtop Remote only.

With the network login from Splashtop to GMail, I keep seeing this logging out randomly andI cannot access. I then check preferences and its signed out. Any reason for this? Is there some timeout?

I have a laptop using Windows 7 and a desktop using Windows XP.  Both have the same version of Norton 360 Premier.  On the Laptop, I have no issues - I am able to connect using the Internet Disvoery (I am able to sign into my GMail with no issues).  However, on my Desktop (Windows XP), when I try to connect to my GMail account, I get log on failed (I have even tried the "test" account that is listed the previous posts, and I get the same message).   I have followed the steps listed to turn off and/or unblock the firewall settings - none of which worked.  I have version 1.7.5.4 of Splashtop Streamer on my Desktop.  Any Suggestions?

Hi

I bought Splashtop Remote Desktop for my iPad and I love it, it works great while I am at home, I can put my ipad in the mount I have for it on my wheelchair and I can work on my laptop which is too hard for me to move around the house physically and I can work on my designs, I was recently away and brought my iPad so I could work off of my laptop which stayed at home and I tried to use the Internet Discovery feature to find my laptop. It wouldn't work. When I got home I updated my Splashtop Streamer to v1.7.5.6 on Windows 7 64-bit and it still will not recognize my google account, which is actually my hotmail account, yet I can access my google account fine through my google toolbar on my internet browser on my computer. Is there any progress on this yet???? I really hope you guys get this straightened out soon or I guess I will have to use another remote desktop app and just cut my losses.

Resolved my above problem. My non-gmail google account (which won't work for splashtop) is always logged in on Firefox.  Not wanting to change that account, I set up another google account with a new gmail address and logged it in on Chrome and now internet discovery works fine.  FYI Once you login your gmail google acct, Chrome does not have to be open for this to work.

@Jaff....

Do you guys QA anything? I have had nothing but problems with this new release. The streamer is crashing on my MacBook constantly and I have very similar connection problems from iPad. Anyone else? I am using the new MBP Retina, so maybe there is some issue there?

I've read these comments for hours...tried lots of things I've read...nothing....

It didn't work for weeks...then it did work for weeks...then it didn't...and it hasn't started working again...

Using Whiteboard and Splashtop 2.....neither working at this point....

Can't find my gmail to log in on my ipad.....can't find my gmail to log in on my PC...it either just spins forever....or tells me my password/login are wrong....

I'm an elementary teacher who either needs to use this on a DAILY basis or give up on the entire thing...my classroom curriculum can not continue to be based on a daily set of crossed fingers that this will work...

I need help...clear...simple help...I'm pretty good with computers....but some of these posts leave me scratching my head..  I've done withat I think I need to do with my firewalls....  My computer is connected to an Ethernet to our distrcit connection....my Ipad is working off my school's wireless connection.....

Have there been any true fixes for this????.
