Does Splashtop Remote work on the HP Touchpad? Is it supported yet? If not, what is the timeframe for this?

Mulitudes (see the precentral blogs)  await the release for the the HP touchpad. This is one of the most asked for apps. Now that HP has given many of us a $50 credit for their app store, we hope that we will see the release of this app before the end of the year so we can spend it with Splashtop!

I also would like to know when a webOS version will be released for Touchpad. I have this installed on my iPad which I've replaced with the Touchpad. I would like to stick with this outstanding app.

I too am anxiously waiting for the Remote desktop version for the HP Touchpad.  With the firesale of the HP Touchpad this past weekend, over 350,000 units have been sold in 3 days.  You would get at a least 1/3 or 100,000 of these downloaded and bought for as soon as you have this available almost guaranteed.

Yes, please release a WebOs version for the touchpad. With all the Touchpads sold (I bought two) this could be a great app. It is the only solution for streaming Netfilx on a Touchpad. I also need to access my work computer. This would be the killer app for the Touchpad.

Yes downloaded and works great on our local network - just getting it working over Internet is having issues.  Tried on iOS too, same issues.

I've added the forwarding ports in the Linksys router, tried with and without Norton firewall running, but still no joy. Think I'll have to log a support ticket.  Even tried going back to v1.5.0.1 as suggested in another thread, and changing the default port to 6784.

Any chance of a logmein style solution, that just seems to work without messing around with ports and all this ?

I cannot get scrolling to work for me at all from the TouchPad to Mac OS X Lion.  Two finger swipe up shows the desktop?!  Anyone else had success or failure when scrolling?

It is showing the desktop, because that is what I have set up in the top left corner of my screen for expose.

I can't scroll on OS X Lion either - not very useful without that.  Really hope I'm missing something simple here.  Two finger swipe makes the desktop zoom and wiggle a bit but not scroll.

Paid for this - but not impressed! How on earth do you scroll up and down within a browser?

It says ... Two-finger drag: Scrolls the active window

But for me - two fingers don't do anything other than zooming in and out, and some jumpiness.

What's wrong with just one finger scrolling operation as in the Web-OS browser. Feel I've just wasted £4 odd on this, makes the app useless - if this is a bug then it's a big one!

Grumpy. Try double-tap-drag. You actually have a use for the scroll bars now ;)

Hi All,

The scrolling with 2-fingers works for Windows/Mac (Lion and Snow Leopard), but it does take some getting used to as the 2-fingers may be difficult to register with the platform.  Quick swipes up or down seem to work the best.  The reason the 1-finger gesture is not used is because the platform uses 1-finger to move the entire desktop screen, so we cannot use that gesture.  Hope this helps!

Victor,

Thanks for your reply.

I was able to get scrolling to work (a little) by placing two fingers on the TouchPad and then quickly swiping up or down. On any other application (or device) the two finger swipe is much easier.

It's really difficult and should be fixed. Please consider a tweak in the sensitivity.

Thanks.

Scrolling really dosnt work :(

My Idea:

Srolling only with one finger! - wow! :)

Because: Zoom isn't a really useful thing on south a big Tablet and when zoomed, the people can drag the screen around with two fingers.

When you don't want to change the App and user experience, you can make a Option in the preferences to change the one and two finger swipes to drag in zoom mode or scroll - so every user can use his favorite.

Some scrolling problems are due to the user having brought up the onscreen keyboard, and left one of the ctrl or shift keys (which are "sticky") pressed down.  In that situation a two finger swipe will cause a zoom, not a scroll.

Maybe the keys should unstick when the onscreen keyboard is put away.

I have installed Splashtop streamer on my windows 7 laptop and followed all directions, entered password etc. I have app loaded to my HP Touchpad. The TP tells me that it has found my laptop, however when I try to log on I get Splashtop Remote wrong security code, could not connect. I have uninstalled and reinstalled Splashtop streamer, deleted an reentered information in touchpad. Can anyone tell me what is wrong and how to connect?

I have tried hours to get this program to work on my HP Touchpad.   I reinstalled the application twice on my PC  (runs Vista) and still can't get it to work.  I click on the PC icon with the correct IP address - enter my password and wait a few seconds and then "unable to connect" comes up as a message.   I've tried everything including setting up a GMail account no success.  Not sure what to try next  Can I get some help?   My email is steve.johnson2@hp.com.

In answer to David and Steve who were also having the same trouble.....don't know what happened guys...but yesterday when I tried to connect once more, it all came together and the desktop appeared on my touchpad.. Can't tell you what i did, but I had previously checked out the correct IP and played around with the connections then gave up in disgust and went to bed convinced it would never happen as I am not your usual hi tech person (being nearly 80 years old and trying hard to keep up with technology....and a lot of the jargon used means nothing to me).  However...it was great to have the app installed my trouble now is one that is also upsetting a few others and that is the scrolling with two fingers.....very difficult, but I'll keep trying.   Good Luck !

Yes this APP has the potential to be a huge sellers for the recent 1000's+ who just got a touchpad in the company and would love to get this app working.  4.99 x 1000 = A lot of updates to the app.  Wish I could figure out what is causing this to NOT work.  I've exhausted my extensive knowledge of network and IP Addresses to no avail.

Hi All,

We recently released version 1.0.5 to improve scrolling and the security code issue mentioned above.  Thanks for your feedback and patience!

  • Improved scrolling gesture.
  • Resolved the issue of some Security Code combinations cannot connect to Splashtop Streamer.
  • Resolved the issue of customized  Port number cannot be saved.
  • Support connection to Splashtop Streamer using domain name address.

For issues with WebOS 3.0.4, a work around is to change the audio settings to 16 bit, 48000Hz.  We are investigating the new issue with 3.0.4.

I purchased Splashtop remote today.  I'm running WebOS 3.0.4...I have installed the latest clients (TP version 1.05, Windows 7 version 1.6.5.3).   After install, I reboot both the Touchpad and Windows 7 laptop.

I'm getting the cannot connect error, and have not been able to successfully connect up to this point.  After reading around the site, it appears that there are issues with WebOS 3.04.

Is this the case?  If so, there are 2 major problems all customers who bought your program post the WebOS update.

1.  You indicate on your site that WebOS 2.1.0 or later is compatible.  http://support-remote.splashtop.com/entries/20289718-webos-clients

2.  There is NO indication during the purchase process that these issues exist.

Please correct me if I am wrong, but it appears I have spend $10 on a product that does not work.

Hi all,

Most of cases, firewall issue block the connection, here is a link talking about firewall settings on some anti-virus and security software, please have a reference if you have installed one of them.

http://support-remote.splashtop.com/entries/20570351-firewall-settings-on-different-anti-virus-security-software

Another tip is to restart your router especially you have done a busy download.

We just released a new update for Mac(v1.6.5.1) and Windows(v1.6.5.3) Streamer, welcome to have a try too.

Still having infinite connecting to computer after upgrading TP to 3.04. It always auto-discovers my PCs that are running the streamer (computer name and address and a blue screen on the icon), It seems that the Splashtop Remote Service isn't really a service. I must be logged onto the PC (on the console or via Remote Desktop) with an active window, and then I can connect every time, so this is not a port or firewall issue (unless you think these somehow change as I log in, and change back when I log out). If I close the RD window, the connection drops, and can't reconnect. Configuration: Windows 7 Ultimate (2 machines with exactly the same behavior). WebOS 3.04, Splashtop remote 1.05, Splashtop Streamer 1.6.5.3. I have reinstalled the streamer, and even wiped and reloaded the apps on the TP.

Test1: reboot PC - infinite connecting to computer on TP

Test2: login, and verify splashtop remote service was running (it was), and see the new popup saying splashtop streamer is running (why is this showing if it was running before?). Can connect from the TP and all is fine. Log off of the PC, and the connection drops, and cannot reconnect. Log back on with same popup appearing and splashtop can now be restared and connects. There at least 5 iterations of that test in 1 session, and many more over several days all with the same results.

Test3: open a RD session with Remote Desktop Client (from HP app catalogue) (must be logged in via RDC, not just an open session) minimize it to a card, then open splashtop - connects every time, but drops the connection if I close the Remote Desktop Client or even go back to that card, and can't re-connect unless the RDC client is still running in a card. I can then restart splashtop and connect every time. Again multiple iterations of the test. Each test run always had the same result.

So I think splashtop definitely has a problem unrelated to my configuration that they need to address.

Victor stated above "For issues with WebOS 3.0.4, a work around is to change the audio settings to 16 bit, 48000Hz". I'm sorry, but I have no idea where you would set this, or how. Can someone enlighten me?

BTW, I submitted a bug report via the app in the HP catalogue, and was met with dead silience...

@N3M3S1S ,

Are you using 5.1 channel in Windows setting? if so, please adjust it to be Stereo ,then TouchPad side should hear a normal sound.

@WB,

Have you tried our latest TouchPad update v1.0.5? it improves the guesture for two fingers to scroll.

@James,

Not sure I've fully understood what you meant...try to clarify some behaviors of Splashtop Remote when it co-works with kind of RDC app.

-if you have setting up the audio settings on your pc properly, webOS v3.0.4 should wotk with Splashtop Remote Desktop for TouchPad well. This is the link for how to setup audio settings on vista/win7(I assume your pc is one of them)

http://support-remote.splashtop.com/entries/514294-why-is-there-no-sound-on-my-vista-or-windows-7-system

-if you are attempting to connect your TP to your computer remotely, you can enable the Internet discovery feature on TouchPad and Streamer with a gmail logged in. This link tells how to enable it on both TP and PC sides.

http://support-remote.splashtop.com/entries/20056888-find-your-computers-via-internet-discovery

-the scenarios to connect the pc in logged-in state and logged-out state are different, when pc is in logged-in state, Splashtop Remote can directly connect it, but if pc is in logoff state(a screen with user account icon waiting user to click on to login again), Splashtop Remote can connect it and type password to login your pc, but it'll disconnect during Windows logging in, and then you can tap the computer name on TouchPad again to re-connect.

-if you want to use Splashtop Remote with your RDC app together on TouchPad, the cases you encountered are under expection. Whenever you disconnect RDC, Splashtop Remote will disconnect too, when you minimize the RDC session, Splashtop Remote will get a black screen untill you restore the RDC session again.

Hope this helps you know Splashtop Remote more.

Jaff,

I DO NOT WANT to use any RD client to be able to use Splashtop. I was attempting to show that I cannot connect via the touchpad unless I am ALREADY logged on to the PC (either on the console or via RD), which makes the app pretty useless. Thanks for the pointer to check the audio, but I found that the settings were already set to 16bit - 48K (and had been during testing), so the workaround doesn't work for me. Again, splashtop remote service is always running at boot, as I get a BLUE screen in the  computer icon on the TP under splashtop. It is grey if I stop the service, until I start the service again, and re-discover the PC. So to restate - I must be logged on to the PC (and stay logged on) to be able to connect via splashtop. Under those conditions I can connect EVERY time.

See my configuration information in my previous post. What are the next troubleshooting steps to get this resolved?

BTW using the touchpad RDC / Splashtop combination won't work. Although I can connect with splashtop, I have no mouse or keyboard control with splashtop app.

Boy, I've used "gotomypc" on my Windows PC's for years now.  Cost quite a bit more, but it was a super simple install and super simple to get working and has work flawlessly for years now.  Yes, I know, iPad's  are the only smart one of the tablets out there currently working with 'gotomypc" .  I downloaded and installed  the Spashtop App for my HP Touchpad this morning and set up my office Win7 PC with Splashtop Streamer as instructed and did the gmail stuff also. Spent 4 hours trying to connect, recognized my gmail and said connecting and that ole "spinning circle" sat there and spun for several different  hour long attempts and never connnected.  Finally, it came to the end of my work day at the office and I just shut everything down.  Can't  this be made "keep it simple stupidly".  Oh, Please "GoToMyPc" developers put all these "want to be's" in their place and showem how it's done.  REALLY Splastop - Get simple - will ya?  and as for "Logmein" for My Android Toshiba Thrive Tablet - have yet to get that to work either.

@Ben, sorry for the difficulty.  The internet discovery was meant to simplify the process; however, we found in some cases the gchat service is blocked such as 3G/4G carriers and therefore the connectivity.  A work around is to use port forwarding, but it is a little more technical for setup.  http://support-remote.splashtop.com/entries/514213-how-do-i-connect...

I am not able to connect to my pc with email discovery from a remote location on my TouchPad however it does work when I am home and both the ToichPad and pc are on the same network.  I am using the same email ********@gmail.com for both when trying to connect via email discovery, however my TouchPad Splashtop app refuses to sign in to the email acct.  When I press 'sign in' it spins for a brief moment and then goes right back to the 'sign in' button without having done so.  This makes it impossible to connect to my pc from a remote location which defeats the purpose of the program.  Any ideas?  It seems this is happening to other people as well.  I am running the latest versions of both the streamer and desktop client.  Thanks in advance for your help.

Please check the possible solutions from this link:

http://support-remote.splashtop.com/entries/20329286-why-does-my-gmail-login-fail-for-the-internet-discovery-feature

Where's your TouchPad attempting to connect to your home pc? If you are using your TP at work, please confirm your office IT if most of ports like 5222(used by gtalk) has been blocked by security concern. This will cause gmail login fail.

James Damm - I am experiencing the same problem as you.  I can connect via any RDC, and then splashtop - but once I break the RDC session the Splashtop session loses connectivity.  Did you ever figure this out?

Do you happen to have more than one wireless router or access point in your house?

-Robert

Robert,

I have only one access point, and only use this on the local lan, not remotely. With all the latest updates from splashtop for both the TP and PC, the problem has been fixed. I no longer need to to start up a separate RD session first to ensure I can connect with splahtop. I make sure there are NO other RD sessions from anywhere, and can then connect from the TP to the target PC every time, and control the PC correctly. This is now the same behavior as pre WebOS 3.04. Thanks Splashtop for fixing this. I hate to echo the previous posts, but try all the troubleshooting steps mentioned in them, and good luck.
