"Can't connect to your 6783 port" and "Another Splashtop Remote connected" -- Why am I seeing these messages?

In some older versions of  Windows Streamer, such as v1.5.5.x, there are some situations wherein you may see these error messages.  These have been fixed, so this won't happen any more if you install the newest Windows Streamer v1.6.0.1 or above.  First you must un-install your old Windows Streamer.  Then re-boot your PC, and install the newest Windows Streamer from our web site (which, as always, is FREE).

However, if you still get this issue, you can try one of our work-arounds below.

1.  Log Off of Windows, then Log In again.  It may get everything working.

2.  Or, restart your Router (especially if your Router just finished a busy download process), then try again.

If none of the above fixes your problem, please let us know what message you are getting and what scenario caused it.  Also provide:

Client device and OS version:  ex. ipad2, iOS 5 beta 5

The OS of the machine on which you are running our Windows Streamer.  For example, Windows 7, 64 bit.

I experience the same problem. The workaround works but you need to be physically behind the PC with the streamer to resolve this issue.

Can you direct us to a previous version download page please?

How will I be notified when the issue has been resolved?

regards,

Peter.

I am having the same problem again. Streamer is flickering on the screen when stopping and starting on its own and getting the message about not connecting to port 6783. I am running the current version of Splashtop on my iPad2 1.5.5.1 and version 1.5.0.1 on my Win 7 64bit desktop. Attached is the log file. Also, where is the download button on the badongo link?

Hi all,

If you did not setup a password protection on your computer and get this issue, suggest that you can setup ONE to be a temporary workaround. Once a login screen there, this issue may be skipped. It's a good workaround(when it works) if you can't be physically behind your computer as Peter concerned.

That 's interesting Jaff because i have à login password but...also set autologon within w7 64 to bypass THE login dialog during reboot and still this issue. By THE way, THE previous version works

I had the same problem.  The fix I used was to set a port range on the router (6783-6785), I changed the port that Splashtop was using to 6784...problem solved!  Somehow port 6784 is registering as not free for Splashtop to use.  By having a port range assigned I can now use anything in the range.

To change the port in Splashtop:  Click the Setting tab.  Click Advanced Settings button.  Change port to a port within the range you specified on the router.  Click OK.

Should be working like new.

oops I meant port 6783 was not registering as free to use for Splashtop ...port 6784 was open for biz!

How do you change the router port?

First I will say I really like Splashtop. I did not have a problem before but two days ago I switched to a new firewall. I had a Linksys wireless router but the wireless did not work very well at all so I switched to a Netgear FG318 VPN/Firewall and Netgear wireless access point.

When I first connected using my iPad, there was no sound on the iPad, but i connected. I went to my computer and saw that there was a port 6783 issue and it had a little "x" in the icon. I changed the antivirus firewall settings and then re-installed Splashtop.

Now when I try to connect via the iPad, my computer is "discovered" but there is a connection failure that occurs. I looked at changing the port settings in the router but did not get anywhere. In the UPnP section, I can see the ports.

Kwani, when you connect remote  - i.e. outside your physical residence - your device cannot see the ip-addresse of your host-pc compared to when its is in your residence. It connects with your router which must forward you to the right host. In order to be able to connect to your router you must know the so-called external router ip-address. It is the middle-man function between youtr outside en inside devices. To find it you need to look in your router as admin. To make your life easier you can in most cases 'attach' that ip-address to a name via a name-service like dyndns.org. See https://www.dyndns.com/account/services/hosts/add.html where it also shows your external ip-address immediately.

I set up port forwarding with my routers external ip address and still can not connect to my computer away from home

I guess i had to be clearer. Your forwarded port in the router needs to be filled in with your host ip address. Not the external ip address. When you connect via the internet with splashtop client, you must create/fill in the external address in the splashtop client in order to connect to the router and than to be forwarded to the right host pc.

I am still having problems even with port forwarding. My scenerio is as follows"

Windows 7 64bit OS on desktop'

iPad

Netgear wired router...prt forwarding set up for UDP and TCP and ports 6783-6785

Splashtop Streamer sees Local Area COnnection 192.168.200.2 for Ceton TV card and 192.168.1.7 for Local Area Connection

iPad app opened and desktop computer on network "found automatically at 192.168.1.7"......then disappears....then found again

I click to connect and the password dialog screen pops up.....states it is connecting and then "Cannot connect to your computer" screen pops up with S=00 E=84000121 in the lower lefthand corner

If I am on an outside network, say at Starbuck's, I can connect via the google route.

I tried uninstalling splashtop streamer and reinstall. Interestingly, the Interent connection is found and then the connection for my local Intranet network will "slide in form the right" on the screen as being automatically found on the network and disappear and do it again in a minute or so. The connection is not stable for some reason.

I installed Splashtop Streamer on a second desktop in my house and did not chage the router settings at all nor did I change the firewall on the computer. The UPnP was on for teh router.

I was able to connect without issue with this second computer. So I do not think it is the router that is the problem since I can connect. The question is about the two local area connections (see my note above) that Splashtop is seeing. Are they conflicting somehow?

Just to let you know also that I am ready for the answer to my wife...."no honey, I do not have anything better to do...."

I am having a very weird problem after I changed to port 6784 on my computer and ipad. I followed Jaff's suggestion because I have " port 6783 not reachable" issue. I tried to connect to my computer with my ipad after changing the port and noticed that on the right hand side bottom corner of my computer screen says my ipad connected to this computer but on my ipad it says Splashtop Remote cannot connect to your computer.  I don't know what I should do now. Any suggestions?

BTW, Jaff, I followed your instruction trying to change the port  number on my ipad, it did not work. My ipad can find my computer automatically. I went to Splashtop Remote home page, tap ">" beside the computer then go to advance page. It won't show any port information except resolution setting. I had to delete the computer and manually  added this computer back so that I can change the port to 6784.

Hi all,

We are sorry about this issue, it'll be fixed in next update, it's coming soon, please stay tuned.

Before the new update coming, you can either change port to 6784, or use this old streamer to get a workaround.

@Peter,

Please follow the steps to upgrade to v1.6.0.1.

1. Uninstall previous version.

2. Restart pc

3. Reinstall v1.6.0.1.

This way can get a brand new update instead of a partial Update.

Ok, i have followed THE recommended uninstall and used my iPad after that without à problem until the moment i just tried to setup à rdp remote connection -which worked- and than wanted to switch Back to using splashtop. À frozed screen and cursor as à result. I decided to kill both cliënte on THE iPad, activated splashtop client again and then THE w7 password screen was shown. After entering my password i got through but my screen host Control (Catalyst) was forced to close. So IT does not work yet perfectly when using another protocol between sessions.

Update previous comment: I seem to have instability issues when connecting, pointing the arrow, clicking Splashtop quits. After restart it seems to work again. Give it another try today but the v1.5.0.1 version did not have this behavior so far.
