Here are some tips for users who have reported a "no sound" issue on the iPad side:
For iOS client:
1. This was a known issue on the v1.5.5.2 Mac Streamer. If you are using this older version of Mac Streamer on Mac OS X 10.7.x (Lion), there won't be any sound streamed to the client tablet/phone side; and you might not even be able to connect successfully. So far, this issue was only reported by our users in the Hebrew and Arabic language versions of Splashtop Remote.
This has been fixed in Mac Streamer v1.6.0.0, and you can simply update to that version (or higher) to solve the audio-streaming issue.
If you wish to keep using your older version of the Mac Streamer, try changing the language to English or others, as a temporary work-around.
2. If your iOS on iPad is v4.3, please also view this article from Apple:
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4085
Please follow these steps to verify if the mute function was enabled on your iPad:
a. Tap Settings > General.
b. Under Use Side Switch to shown below, select Mute. Then select Lock Rotation again to fix a bug from iOS.

c. Double-click the Home button to display recently used apps.
d. Flick from left to right along the bottom of the screen. A sound control bar will display:

e. If there is a slash across the Speaker button as shown above on the left, tapping it can enable your sound function again.
For Streamer:
If the above tips do not work for your case, please also refer to the following, according to your Streamer OS type (that is, the OS of the machine on which the Streamer is running):
1. XP
Some XP audio drivers don't support an audio-mixer feature. That's the reason why Streamer can't stream audio to your tablet/phone. Here are some suggestions for you to try:
2. Vista and Win7
3. Mac

I had the same problem until installed sunflower (or whatever it is called). The Imac doesn't mute though.
No sound here too. running xp service pack 3 with Focusrite Saffire LE firewire for sound.
ipad 3 running splashtop 1.7.5.4 sound was working fine but seems to have broken around the same time I updated my imac to 10.7.4 . Im not certain that caused it but I have tried all the steps I could find to do and I cant get sound to stream anymore. Help!
@drew,
Not sure what happened?
Could you uninstall Splashtop Streamer for Mac and Sound Flower, then re-install Mac Streamer again to see if there's difference?
Hi Jaff, I'm having this problem too. I'm using Lion Splashtop streamer version 1.7.5.2 and VLC 2.0.1 with iPad 3. It connects to my iMac fine, but there is no sound on the iPad.
@Mandy Lupton,
The no sound issue only happened when you are watching movie with VLC or always no sound even playing song only?
Please also confirm:
1.the Soundflower has been installed and properly setting up on your mac:http://support-remote.splashtop.com/entries/514300-why-is-there-no-sound-on-my-mac-or-why-do-i-kept-on-hearing-noise-from-my-mac-s-microphone
2.audio volume on ipad is not muted (instructions mentioned above)
Hi Jaff,
The sound issue only happens with VLC video. The audio works perfectly through iTunes.
I've set the Sunflower settings and Splashtop preferences as per your link but still no audio. I have also made sure that the side switch is on lock rotation, not mute as per instructions above.
Hmmm...what next...?
@Mandy Lupton,
1. Audio playback by iTunes on ipad uses a different way from apps, could you confirm again the audio still works perfectly even through iTunes from Mac? or confirm again by the steps c~e mentioned above to confirm there's no '\' mute-sign on audio symbol?
2.If your mac audio settings of Input and Output are selected as "soundflower(2ch)", please confirm the Audio Input Velume is at maxmum. (some users told us this is the reason they can't hear sound, see pictures in Step2 on this link: http://support-remote.splashtop.com/entries/514300-why-is-there-no-sound-on-my-mac-or-why-do-i-kept-on-hearing-noise-from-my-mac-s-microphone)
Sorry, your case is a little weird, we need more confirmation to know more details about your case.
1. Yes, to clarify, when I operate iTunes on my iMac it works perfectly via Splashtop on the iPad - I can hear the audio on the iPad and the iMac audio automatically mutes as it is supposed to.
2. Yes, the soundflower(2ch) audio settings on the Mac are set at max input volume.
(btw - Splashtop worked for me perfectly on iPad2, I've only had this issue since getting iPad3)
Plus I have confirmed that there is no mute sign on audio symbol (c) -(e) and that lock rotation is selected a la (b)
@Mandy Lupton,
We just found VLC v2.0.1 got a problem on Mac, when you play video or song with it, it'll automatically muted on mac after hours unless you close&re-open VLC. It looks like a compatibility issue between VLC and Soundflower and may be fixed by them in newer version.
Do you find this in your side?
I use Splashtop Remote on an iPad 1 to connect to 2 computers both having Windows XP. Since I, today, upgraded to Splashtop Remote vs.2 and Streamer vs. 2, the sound is no more streamed to my iPad and I also noticed performance issues. With the previous versions of Splashtop apps everything worked almost perfectly and I have been very satisfied with Splashtop.
Is there any workaround for this issue (I use the last version for the sound drivers)? or
Can I go back to Splashtop vs. 1.x?
I've had this issue since I began using splashtop almost a year ago. My mac running os x lion has never successfully redirected the sound to my iPad or iPhone running splashtop remote initially, and continues now with splashtop 2 on my iPad 3. I have followed all the steps listed on this page, as well as those listed on the mac osx server page (soundflower). I love splashtop, but have been going back to logmein because of this failure. I hope someone here can help me! Thank you.
@Jaff
Out of curiosity upgraded to v2 iPad app and v2 streamer but still the same problem. I then tried playing my video using another media player (Quicktime) and Splashtop works fine - the audio switched from iMac to iPad. Looks you are right about VLC :-(
Mandy Lupton, you may be needing to simply specify the output audio device that VLC is using if its working for itunes. You will have to set VLC to output to the soundflower 2ch in order for the audio to stream. See this screenshot http://grab.by/erou
