Bug: App does not save custom port number

Kamil Mackow
asked this on September 26, 2011 14:28

When defining a custom port on the HP Touchpad App, it seems to save it because it connects properly during that session but when you close the app and relaunch it, the port is back to the default 6783. I have my connection configured for 6786 and have to change it each time I launch the app. Minor annoyance, but a bug nonetheless.

I can't get it to change ports at all and this is critical for me as I can't use the standard port in my environment.

I submitted the following to support:

There are 2 issues:

Issue 1: Streamer program doesn't save the custom Starting port number after exit:

Test 1) Streamer for Windows 7 x64 v1.601: going to Settings > Advanced Settings > changed port number to 6780 > clicked on OK. I'm able to connect to Streamer from over the internet via the Splastop client. As soon as I close my RDP session to the Streamer PC, Splashtop client can't connect back. I RDP back into the Streamer and see that port changed back to 6783.

Test 2) Configure port to 6780 > clicked on OK. Exit Splashtop app via the Windows systray. Start Streamer again, and port changed back to 6783.

Issue 2: SplashTop for TouchPad: manually added 2 Streamer connections with starting ports 6780 and 6783, respectively. I want to have 1 connection be 6780, the other 6783. It seems that both connections always change to just one starting port. I can't maintain 2 separate ports for 2 separate connections. It's either 6780 or 6783 for both.

I should add that I went back to my TouchPad and verified also that you cannot change the port number there. It doesn't save it.

I have this problem too on one of my computers on my network. The TouchPad app doesn't save the port number if manually changed. The software on the computer saves this changed port number without issue.

I did have it working earlier in the day...now though, when I try it, it fails to connect because the port number defaults back to  6783-6785.  I also submitted a help ticket on this but I just wanted to add my 2 cents to your post. You're not alone in experiencing this.

To add to this: connecting on the same WIFI network has no issues.

(since both the Touchpad app and the Streamer programs default back to 6783)

I have 4 PC's I need to access over the internet, and port forwarding requires that I set different ports for each one. This defect makes splashing unuseable for the  purpose for which it was purchased.

Is there an etaon an update? As oneof the people who paid for the app (and also bought it on my iphone), I'm really counting on it working properly.

has anyone come up with a workaround? Seems like there should be a settings file where these values are stored. Maybe it can be edited directly?

Splashtop Inc.

Hi All,

We recently released version 1.0.5 to improve scrolling and the customized port issue mentioned above.  Thanks for your feedback and patience!

  • Improved scrolling gesture.
  • Resolved the issue of some Security Code combinations cannot connect to Splashtop Streamer.
  • Resolved the issue of customized  Port number cannot be saved.
  • Support connection to Splashtop Streamer using domain name address.

For issues with WebOS 3.0.4, a work around is to change the audio settings to 16 bit, 48000Hz.on Streamer computer (no audio device configured or wrong audio configurations may cause connection fail)  We are investigating the new issue with 3.0.4.
