I purchased the Touchpad splashtop application at the listed price of 9.99 yesterday morning and by yesterday afternoon it dropped to 4.99, will you be issuing refunds? I could understand if maybe there was a like a 30 day window but such a huge price drop in less than 24 hours I think should warrant a refund. Thanks!

Same comment as you Soeltran, i feel a bit scammed by this early price drop :/
Rather than getting a refund for the price difference, could you email me a promo code for the phone (Pre 2) version of Splashing? That would be fine with me. :-)
Er, I mean Splashtop.
I am in the same boat as you guys. Feel scammed :( If I can get a Touchpad promo code, then I will install Splashtop on another Touchpad in my household.
The same here. I would like to have a promo code, if possible, to another HP Touchpad. Thanks
Me too.
I was pleased to order quick to get the 50% discount but now feel betrayed and should have waited.
Crickets....
Ditto Same comment as you Soeltran, i feel a bit scammed by this early price drop :/
Would happily take Promo for 2nd TP

I too feel ripped off by the $9.99 > $4.99 price drop, especially since I had been very excited about the product release, and had submitted my email to be notified of the release as soon as that function became available. Ultimately, I became informed of the release through an article on webosroundup.com, and did notice that I hadn't yet received a notification email. I hesitated for a little bit, thinking that the email notification might provide some kind of promotional discount, but decided to pull the trigger. Very disappointing.... Very much LOVE the app, however! Just wish I didn't have to have that tinge of bitterness every time I use it.
I would like to know why the App is so much more expensive in the UK ?
It is almost £8.00 in the UK App Catalogue yet is only $4.99 if you are in the USA
Rip off britain getting fleeced again, no wonder piracy is rife which is a sad state of affairs
Can someone from Splashtop answer the above please ?
And also the notification email was 2 days after the launch
Maybe they're just deciding what they can do before they respond. Maybe??
No, they will just delete this topic as they have others w/o responding.
The 50% promo said it was for a limited time, so I jumped on the offer, only to find the price dropped. That was misleading. I would also be happy to get a promocode for another TP. Love the product so far and looking forward to it being as feature rich as the iPad version.
I agree. I only purchased at $9.99 because it said it was jumping up to $19.99. I think it wasn't even 2 hours later after buying it that it went down to $4.99.
Adding insult to injury HP now is offering for free with promo code wulax11125hhtaw ... sigh I guess it never pays to be an early adopter and a loyal customer.....
Crickets....
And now it's one of the free promo items... I just ordered it 1.5 hours ago.. and now it's free.. too funny....
Seriously, complaining because a company dropped their price...when the original price was already at a discount? This is not being scammed. No one was taken advantage of and everyone paid what they were willing to pay at the time.
Don, the problem is that the day the App was released, it was listed at 50% off, then JUST HOURS LATER, that very same day, the price was cut in half again, taking it to 75% off.
It would be different if the price dropped a week or so later. But just hours later on the first day of release ?
@Dave, @S Tran - hard to fault the app developers for the free promo code from HP as that code came from HP, not the developers (as I understand it).
@DW - I understand why people are disappointed but to consider themselves scammed is a bit much. You suggested that if the price dropped a week or so later, or perhaps never, then it would be different. Why? In other words, did people feel scammed at the time they made their purchase? If not then there really is no right to complain on this issue. I'm sorry to say this, but it comes off as whining.
As a point of comparison, I bought my TouchPad on launch day. Paid full price. When I began to hear about the drastic price cuts only weeks later I too felt the initial sting. However, I realized I was willing to pay what I paid so I was treated fairly. Of course, I was more than happy to get the refund (which I was able to do through BestBuy) but I wasn't expecting it. With that said, it would certainly be excellent PR for Splashtop to offer first day buyers a refund...especially if there was some error in the initial posted price.
I got one of the free Splashtop promo codes from HP yesterday. I will admit I feel a lot better than I felt when I bought the app for 9.99 and it was reduced to 4.99 soon after (about 10 mins later). I will not be complaining about this anymore. I will however state that people only feel scammed because there is no official response from Splashtop. It is also possible that we expect a lot more from a customer service standpoint and price point guarantee.
For example if you bought something from a professional company such as JC Pennys and they dropped their product price they would give you a refund especially if it is within their price guarantee period. This is exactly the same scenario. Splashtop definitely needs to improve in this area.
On the other hand if you bought cookies for 25 cents from kids having a bake sale, and they later dropped it to 5 cents to sell off their inventory, you would not be upset because they are not a company. Just my thougths!
I'd like FULL refund since I have not been able to connect rmotwly since day TWO! Wtf?
Ditto to most comments, but I would like a credit, as I already had the palm pre version.
To Don's comment, I bought at Touchpad from HP and the price dropped a week later, and I was offered the choice of returning it, or getting a credit for the difference. Pretty common practice in retail. As you found out from your experience with Best Buy. If Best Buy hadn't offered you a credit, when other retailers were, you would be less likely to shop there in the future, and look for alternatives. I get that they don't have to offer the credit, that is the company's choice, buyer beware and all that, but it would be good practice so that you don't piss off future customers who might buy other products in the future. It is highly unlikely that I will buy from Splashtop in the future if they don't offer a refund for the price drop.
My original request was just that a request. And I believe everyone else was in the same boat. Do I feel entitled to a refund? No. I bought the app because I really like it, which mind you I also have purchased the Andriod, and iOS versions for my other devices since it works so well.
I think an update from splashtop would just make us feel better from the stand point of caring about your customers and improving the customers experience.
@ Doug - I think your comments are spot on.
@ S Tran - I supposed I read too much into your wording "warrant" within the original post. Others after you started to use the word "scammed". Otherwise, I agree with you. Splashtop will certainly improve their reputation and customer loyalty if they respond to this issue.
I agree. This business tactic is pretty underhanded. Nice to see how they treat their early adopters. I bought it a $10 and not THREE hours later they cut the price in half! Not only that but their customer support SUCKS. I literally wrote them within 4 hours of my purchase and have yet to get any kind of reply! This is how you handle your customers??? Pretty pathetic.
at the very least they could have given us a voucher code to get a second copy or something, but so far they have failed as a company and failed to give any kind of 'customer support,
I received an email from their support today stating that the original price of 9.99 was intended to be 4.99 and that they would send a free promo code for a future touchpad app!
This is more than I expected and I am very happy with them, their response could of been faster but hey a response and a freebie! Thanks Splashtop.
I assume you all got the same email too! =)
Not yet! But I also have not been able to open my home computer remotely since day 2! so the app is worth nothing to me, but cost me $9.99. Great deal, huh?
I also received an email from Splashtop yesterday around 12:17am and I promptly responded back to them. Kudos to Splashtop! I would suggest that folks email Splashtop Support a copy of your HP receipt for your Splashtop purchase made on 9/26/2011 ( the day it came out) so that they can get you on their list. i have not yet received a reply from Splashtop but i am expecting they will sometime in the future. I bought Splashtop with the $50 HP promo codes tied to my WebOS account and i am sure that many others are in the same boat. This is what Splashtop officially said in their email:
"Dear Splashtop / TouchPad customer,
We would like to thank you for your purchase of Splashtop Remote Desktop HD for the HP TouchPad and making it a best-seller from the moment it was available for purchase in the HP App Catalog.
At the same time we would like to apologize for a price change which took place on the 1st day from $9.99 to $4.99. Splashtop was anxious to make Splashtop Remote HD available as soon as possible and a pricing update was not propagated until after the app was available. Our intent was to give a deep discount at $4.99 so more people can enjoy the product.
For people who purchased Splashtop at $9.99. We have been working to credit back the difference since the launch day; however, unfortunately, there is no easy way. Please email us a copy of your purchase receipt, and we like to gift you our next TouchPad product. We are working on other exciting products for TouchPad, and you will be notified to redeem the gift.
Sorry again about the late response. We hope you will enjoy Splashtop on TouchPad, and we do look forward to your feedback on how we can best improve the product.
Sincerely,
Splashtop

Dear Splashtop / TouchPad customers,
We would like to thank you for your purchase of Splashtop Remote Desktop HD for the HP TouchPad and making it a best-seller from the moment it was available for purchase in the HP App Catalog.
At the same time we would like to apologize for a price change. Our intent was to give a deep discount at $4.99 so more people could enjoy the product.
However, unfortunately, to credit back the difference is no easy way. So now, we would suggest you to:
(1) open a Support ticket here:
[ http://support-remote.splashtop.com/anonymous_requests/new ];
(2) attach a copy of your purchase receipt; (better to have a screenshot)
Then, once if we confirmed your receipt, (according to current feedback) we can provide three Gift options for you to choose one of those:
(a) we can gift you a copy of Splashtop Remote Desktop for the Palm Pre and Pre2 to gift to a friend or relative…
(b) we can gift you an additional copy of Splashtop Remote Desktop HD for the HP TouchPad to gift to a friend or relative…
(c) gift you our next TouchPad product. (we are working on other exciting products for TouchPad, and you will be notified to redeem the gift. and it will need some time to wait for it.)
We do apology for taking so long to reply to you. We hope you can understand our situation, and also, hope you will enjoy Splashtop products on TouchPad. Again, we do look forward to having your feedback on how we can best improve the product.
Sincerely,
Splashtop
What about those of us that purchased the app at 9.99 on the our $50 catalog credit that HP issued to some of us?
mine is slightly different, I saw the price was £3.98 so clicked to purchase and still got charged £7.97, I have raided a case today and will see what the outcome is. I have a screenshot taken just before purchase (always do that) but cannot paste the url into the support case notes.
