Known issues and Limitations on Android devices

Splashtop Support

This topic applies to Android devices only.  android.png

Pertaining to all Android devices in general:

  • We have had reports of a "Not licensed" message incorrectly displaying on Android devices upon first run of Splashtop Remote.  If you got this message, please check this topic for more information to get it solved.
  • Splashtop Remote Desktop HD for Android has a known issue in which it is unable to connect on the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 tablet with Verizon 4G in the United States, but works very well on the AT&T LTE service.  Currently, the only work-around is to use port forwarding (but please note that this method does require some technical know-how).
  • When you connect to your Streamer computer with an HD tablet device and Android v3.2 installed (such as Moto Xoom), you'll probably get disconnected every couple of minutes. The current work-around is to use a Static IP address, instead of a Dynamic IP address assigned by DHCP.  Check this topic for more details.
  • For channels to buy the Splashtop Remote Desktop for Android app:  Please check this topic for details.
  • If you connected successfully, but then lost the connection after a couple of minutes, disabling the "bluetooth" function on your device may help.  This is a known issue on some Android devices and our engineering team is working on it.  Please stay tuned, if it's still existing in your case.

ASUS Transformer tablet:

  • On this tablet, a right-mouse click will be interpreted as a "Back" action.  This results in the Splashtop connection being closed.  As a work-around for this problem, please change the settings on the ASUS Transformer tablet as follows:  Go to System Settings (of the tablet, not the app) --> ASUS Custom Settings --> Right-click Behavior --> and set the behavior to "Context menu."
  • The ASUS Transformer Prime tablet running with ICS will get a "connection lost" issue after a couple of connections.  This issue should have been fixed in version 1.9.8.6; please try it.

NOOK Color/NOOK tablet :

  • Splashtop Remote Desktop (non-HD) for Android version (including for NOOK Color) has supported the dual monitors feature since version v1.6.0.x.  However, the NOOK Color and NOOK tablet do not yet support the three-finger touch.  So, currently, there is no way to bring up the control User Interface to enable the dual monitors feature.  For more details, please see this topic.
  • In addition, the NOOK Color and NOOK tablet still don't support the Wake-on-LAN feature.  Update:  Starting with v1.8 for NOOK, Wake-on-LAN is supported.

Kindle Fire:

  • The Kindle Fire still does not support the Wake-on-LAN feature.  Update:  Starting with v1.6.5.6, it does support the Wake-on-LAN feature.

Samsung 7" tablet / Huawei Mediapad 7" tablet (running Honeycomb):

  • Some colors are rendered incorrectly.  This issue may be fixed by HD version v1.9.8.6.   Please try it and share your results with us in the Comment section below.

HTC Flyer tablet or other 7" tablet devices (running Honeycomb):

  • There are still some display issues when running Android 4.0 (ICS) on this kind of 7" or smaller screen devices.  Because of this, Splashtop Remote Desktop for Android HD version blocked these devices from the Android market currently.  Please use the non-HD version instead.  This will be fixed and unlocked after these display issues on Android 4.0 have been resolved.

Android phones:

  • Moto Atrix displays a pink screen when connected to a computer.  This issue can be fixed by updating to Android non-HD version v1.6.5.6 or later version.
  • When using a swype keyboard on some devices like Xperia Play, it may not work properly.  As a work-around, please disable "prediction mode" for the swype keyboard.
  • If you get an error message during installation like this —

    "The application Splashtop Remote Desktop (process com.splashtop.remote) has stopped unexpectedly.  Please try again.  Force Close."
    — Please be aware that this type of message is probably caused by trying to install Splashtop Remote Desktop on an unsupported device.  Please check this link for system requirements.  It must be equipped with ARM v7 + Android 2.2+.

@leon rousso,

Is your tablet/phone able to connect to your computer if they are connecting to a same router?

If not, please check the firewall settings on Streamer and disable it or allow Splashtop streamer files to be the xeception list, please have a reference from this link if you have installed any anti-virus software.

I downloaded this less than a week ago and it worked a couple times on my Droid Razr connecting to my home PC but now everytime I try to connect over 3g, it knocks my 3g offline and drops the connection before it connects. I've even uninstalled and reinstalled to no avail. It worked fine a few times, now it doesn't. What gives?? Everytime it knocks my phones 3g out!

@Howard Sweeten,

Have you enabled Internet discovery feature with a gmail? If yes and still not work, check the firewall settings from 3rd party software like anti-virus to allow some files of Splashtop Streamer be the exception list. Two links could be a good reference.

http://support-remote.splashtop.com/entries/20056888-find-your-computers-via-internet-discovery

http://support-remote.splashtop.com/entries/20570351-firewall-settings-on-different-anti-virus-security-software

@Kala Ornellas,

Is your computer running Windows7? if so, please check this link for possible reason and solution for this big icon issue.

http://support-remote.splashtop.com/entries/20320993-why-do-i-only-see-part-of-my-computer-screen-on-my-tablet-phone

@J. Lilly,

For 3g, it usually has an unstable bandwidth in different timeframes and different locations, it'll share the bandwidth with the users nearby served by a same carrier, even though the signal strength looks good. You can try our latest Streamer version v1.7.0.4(instructions in v1.7.0.1 as below link) and enable a hidden feature for 3g users to see if there's better connectivity. Hope you can share us your experience if you tried it. Thanks.

I tried the 3-finger tap on my ASUS Transformer to try to access the second monitor connected to my laptop, but I end up giving it the 1-finger salute. What am I doing wrong? When I try to do the 3-finger thing, it just slightly adjusts the zoom.

Nope. The 3g 'fix' didn't fix a thing. It still drops my 3g out every single time I try to connect now and it does it everywhere. I'm going to have to uninstall this and look for something that works....

@Bob Smith,

Most of Galaxy tab users are using Splashtop Remote smoothly, welcome to have a try!

@Chris Tillman ,

Are you using 3-finger tap? just tap 3 fingers on the tablet without any movement, it'll open a bar from bottom. BTW, what's the version of your Splashtop Remote Desktop HD for android?

@J. Lilly ,

Could you share us what your 3g carrier is? Verizon?

@Lacey Crawley,

It looks like firewall blocked the connection between your kindle fire and computer. Please check this link to find an anti-virus software you have installed on computer and follow the instructions to add some Streamer files into exception list. If you can't find the software from our collections, please try to add the following files by yourself.

Program Folder to find these files:

C:\Program Files (x86)\Splashtop\Splashtop Remote\Server

─ OR ─

C:\Program Files\Splashtop\Splashtop Remote\Server

 Application Files:

- Dataproxy.exe

- inputserv.exe (only necessary for Splashtop Remote Touchpad)

- spupnp.exe

- SRFeature.exe

- SRLogin.exe

- SRServer.exe

If you are using Windows 7, please add another firewall policy for opening ports 6783~6785, which are used by Splashtop Remote by default.
[Procedure]: Open the Windows Start Menu, open the All Programs list, type "firewall," access the advanced firewall settings. Go to Inbound Connection, click "New Rules" in the right panel, select Port, click Next, select TCP, then type 6783-6785.

Badly need this "Some colors are rendered incorrectly." fixed, liked how splashtop worked with my new Samsung 7.7, but those colors are really annoying and make it almost unusable due to this color-ghosting effect.

Connected Droid Bionic and got connected to my Server 2008. First time, left computer screeen active and Bionic wouldnt respond to any Touch. Tried again and keyboard doesnt show up on touch, but when got keyboard displayed, chars DONT GO TO INPUT field. When cursor is positioned with mouse, characters for ID and PASSWORD are not accepted by my signon screen. Keyboard sucks. Drop downs dont drop. Not as good as PocketCloud, but better windowing, not just a keyhole to view. Total Silverlight screen squeezed together well. Move the screen UP by sliding finnger DOWN? You gotta be kidding! MOVE screen UNDER the mouse?? Ha ha ha. TAPPING BUTTON NO WORK. CLICKING MOUSE NO WORK. POCKETCLOUD NOT THAT CRAZY!  Is it the Browser?? Is it SILVERLIGHT = NO BUTTONS?  Silverlight is our ONLY reason to run a computer from a phone! Yer little Right Click and Left Click mice are CUTE, but would be CUTER if they WORKED..

ASUS Transformer tablet:

  • On this tablet, a right-mouse click will be interpreted as the "Back" action.  This results from a limitation related to Honeycomb implementation, and may be fixed by Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich).
Seriously that's your answer????!!!
"May be fixed" when Android 4.0 will come out someday.
ALL your concurent have remapped the right click, why don't you do the same?!
Go play game without right click....

I got Ice Cream Sandwich on my ASUS Transformer, and the right click still does't work!

Don't trow your money away with splashot, there is no support...

Go for "2x client" or "Remote RDP" they got the right click since Honeycomb!

Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich) Issue

The navigation bar at the bottom of the screen is covering the lower portion of my remote desktop.

This means I cant access the Taskbar on my windows machine.

This wouldn't be an issue but my tablet is lacking three finger touch at the moment so I cant use the scroll gesture.

Do you have any plans to add a settings option to activate a "system UI Visibility" tag such as 'FLAG_FULLSCREEN' ?

I see splashtop already has utilised the 'SYSTEM_UI_FLAG_LOW_PROFILE' flag that makes the bar run in a low profile mode.

An option in the settings to choose between these two flags would be a very welcome feature in my opinion.

If you are worried about the User loosing functionality you could simply make the bar visible again whenever the user calls up the keyboard.

Thank you for taking the time to read this and respond.

I have an Asus Prime, and am trying to connect at work.  I have a coworker who has an ipad2 and is connected.  He can even see my laptop but I can't.  On my Splashtop streamer, under the Network Tab, it won't let me sign in to my gmail account.

Why am I getting the "Could not reach" on my app page?

Right click still doesn't work properly on Asus Transformer. Also, the hold for right click doesn't work to well. (i find) if you could offer us the ability to choose from a few different gestures? Like 2 fingers, holding, and maybe a few others?

Also, is it possible to use an controller with Splashtop? If not now perhaps in the future? it would be amazing to be able to use my xbox controller with this.

All, for right click through a connected mouse, please see this post: http://support-remote.splashtop.com/entries/21113236-right-click-on...

The gesture on the tablet directly is a single finger tap and hold.

Im having the same problem as Steven Norman with the status bar covering the windows taskbar. Id really like to just hide the android status bar completely because when im working in windows, I have no need to see the android status bar anyway.

Hey Eric, I have started using the standard version of the app as aposed to the HD version.

It seems to be a much more mature app.

Whilst it still doesn't hide the system UI it does have a very useful pop-up menu.

I can switch mouse modes, video resolution, show a scroll bar and even switch between the remote computers desktops.

Hopefully these features - plus the hiding of the status bar - will be added to the HD version soon.

I recently downloaded and tried the app and encountered some issues which unfortunately forced me to remove it.

1st - the main monitor display on my archos tablet was shaving off the top and bottom of my computer display which is vital for use, it's running at 1680 X 1050

2nd - streaming video was choppy even through the wifi on my home network, let alone through the internet, it is not choppy with my other streaming programs (myview and orb), also my computer is a new quad core, windows 7, with 16gig of ram and dual video cards so processing speed is not an issue

3d - I run a quad monitor set-up, which I know from previous comments means I'm some uber small percentage of the population, but instead of a monitor swap option, if it cycled then it would not matter how many monitors you had

I think this app has some real potential, but I was specifically looking for remote video streaming and currently this just does not cut it.

I'll keep an eye on your development for future consideration.

Cheers,

Matthew

I have 2 questions :Will there be a HD version for the Fire? and Is there a way to connect to the computer that doesn't shrink the CPU screen down?  Because now, when I connect the SD version for the Fire to the CPU it shrinks the CPU's screen down to about a quarter of it's origional size.

Hello Jaff/splashtop,

i have been trying to resolve my issue with your tech support and i am getting no where. they have asked me 3 different times (1-2 weeks between responses) the same question/statement. Please use internet discovery. Well, it is on. it has been on since the begining. ive even went and registered for the splashtop 2 user/password and am signed in both gmail and splashtop accounts on my streamer(s). i dont know what happened just one day it stopped working.

i am able to login on both my laptop and desktop using my galaxy nexus phone when i am on the same wifi. However if i am off of my wifi and using any thing other than my wifi i am unable to connect (i can "see" my computers but not able to log into them). On the very rare occasion (once a week)i can actually log onto one of my machines remotely for about 1-2 seconds then i get booted off. this has nothing to do with bandwidth or connectivity. it used to work fine and now it doesnt. please help, i used your app at least 10 times or more daily and i wouldnt mind partaking in your new paid subscription only plan but until this is resolved......

Galaxy Nexus - Verizon (usually operating on 4G LTE) typical speeds 17M up/down

Laptop/Desktop (Win7) - DSL 2M up/7M down

@Brian,

Sorry for the frustration. Your case actually is a little complicated.

You use ipad with Splashtop 2 app(v2.0.0.6) to connect to your computers which are running with Streamer v2.0.0.8, and you use android phone with Splashtop Remote for android phone app v1.6.6.2 to connect to the same computers. These 2 apps currently use different ways to do the remote connection, Splashtop 2 app uses new Splashtop account (you should have some successful usages on ipad already), and android phone uses Internet Discovery(gmail).

At this moment, the app Splashtop Remote for android phone has known issue on connection using 4G with Spalshtop, please check this link for more info: http://support-remote.splashtop.com/entries/20537498-does-splashtop-remote-support-connection-via-4g

It can work around by using ports forwarding, but needs some tech know-how, we suggest you can wait for our Splashtop 2 for Android phones app released. It'll use the same structure with Splashtop 2 for iPad, then you can use a same Splashtop account for both your ipad and android phone to connect to your computers via wifi or 4G(needs AAP activated). It's coming soon, please stay tuned.

Hope this helps.

Hello,

is it possible to remove/hide the android status bar with splashtop.  Any video player can hide it, why not splashtop?

December 29, 2012 03:26
User photo
Steven Norman

Hey Kai, that is a common request, however there is a strong reluctance to for apps to hide the navigation bar to maintain compatibility with tablets that do not have hardware back buttons and because some elements of android behave poorly when the bar is forcibly hidden. The methods to forcibly hide it all require your device to be rooted. You can use a gesture control app to set up a specific stroke of the screen to show/hide it or for myself I have chosen a ROM that has this functionality built in to the power menu. now that splashtop has a disconnect button in the pop up menu its a feature that could be implemented but I've had various inconsistant results when the bar is hidden on the fly. Hopefully splashtop will add this as an option in the settings with a warning that results may vary. For now we wait.
