If you are using Splashtop Remote Streamer for the iPad or iPhone, it is possible to connect to a computer remotely via a 3G network, as long as it is a model which is equipped with 3G capability. However, the performance of the remote connection may be degraded compared to other network connection methods.
Also, be aware that to access your computer from outside your home (or office) network, you may need to appropriately configure your firewall and router.

My iPhone 4 I can connect via WI-FI but not vaia 3G. More often than not I am not in areas with WI-FI is there something that can be done so i CAN use your app over a 3G connection?
im in UAE and same thing here. my iphone 4 can connect to my pc on wifi but not on 3g !!!
i'm using the latest builds.
We all paid for this app and if I am not mistaken it says we can connect via 3G connection. Does anyone from Splashtop ever answer their customers questions?
Hey guys, there has been some confusion about this post. It was originally written about the iPad version of the app, which does support 3G connections. The iPhone version does not currently support 3G connections (it is mentioned in the app description, and we just clarified this in the post above). We are working on adding 3G support. Sorry about any confusion.
I'm with Steve here. I work in the IT Industry and am sure I'm not making any mistakes from my end. I have the correct IP, I have the correct ports open etc. The iPad cannot connect to the home computer over 3G. When it tries I simply receive the error: "could not reach xx.xx.xxx.xxx" (x being my IP). I love using this App while connected to the home network. Please sort this issue out!
I would not have bought the (nice) app if I knew beforehand that I can't connect my 3g IPAD. Defeats the purpose of having a mobile device that can only use wireless. Won't even connect to my wireless hotspot device. Interested to see what if anything they do
Update: Works Ipad 3g (telstra) if I connect Ipad to VPN 1st. Not ideal and what was promised but works well with only slight lag over wireless. Hope 3g issue fixed before my IT kills the VPN they hate
I have an iPhone 4 and saw this thread. Thought I might add something.
When I try to connect via 3G the host pops up the connection info menu saying that my iPhone is controlling the PC. On the iPhone end, it then says "unable to connect". This tells me that the ports are set correctly, but the software on the phone isn't working properly.
I realize this isn't the main topic of the thread (iPad is), but some people here were posting as such.
Okay I understand that you mentioned firewall needs to be disabled or allowed. But why is it that every other remote access application allows you to access the app without going inside firewalls to disable? I own logmein and myhomePC, I thought I would give this a try as well, and guess what it still does not connect. Yes, I’ve placed a ticket in and have yet to get a reply back. I’ve tried this on a Windows XP, Windows Visita, MacOS and Windows 7 PC still will not connect, the interesting part is I can connect using wireless temporarily until it immediately disconnects that’s if I disable my Ethernet adapter. Okay you may say connection issue? Why would the other two apps still allow me to connect and control if it’s a connection issue? This is a flawed application and needs to be reported to apple or atleast tested. I am willing to help where needed, but I need you guys to be supportive.
I was able to connect my htc evo over a 4g connection, but when i closed splastop I had to reboot my router every time. Any suggestions?
I have HTC Thunderbolt and I have the fastest 4g connection but I can't log into my pc.
Is there any special setting inorder to connect over 4g?
Jim Eiilott- How can you connect to with evo 4?
Thanks,
Too Bad! I just purchased this software. I can't imagine that I can only access to my pc within the same network. Since I have a laptop, there is meaningless to use this software within my house.
Steve, Thanks for the update anyway,
Hi All,
The Splashtop Remote program does support connecting through 3G. The setup does require some technical know-how of your wireless router. Every setup is slightly different - please refer to the link in the original question above. Also, we have a step-by-step process for configuring an Airport Extreme and Linksys Wireless-G Broadband Router. This may help as a reference, depending on the router/setup you have at home.
Also, we understand your frustration and ARE working on a new feature to make this process simpler and easier.
By the way, we do not have the resources to oversee the forums. Hopefully, the community can help on these forums. You can file a ticket for quicker support. Thanks for your understanding.
Thanks,
Victor (Splashtop)
good stuff. thanks victor. By forwarding all three ports, I was able to connect. I didn't see that link (likely because I was a bit impatient), so re-reading it helped.
thanks.
After countless hours of fustration, I have finally got splashtop to work outside my lan. For people with Verizon fios routers, there is one simple step to do, after port forwarding. You have to go to firewall settings, general tab, Allow incoming and outgoing events. It's that simple. I feel like an idiot for having spent so much time when that was all that kept it from working. Good luck.
Cheers to you guys for finally creating an app that allows me to flawlessly access my desktop computer over a 3G network on my iphone 4 !! I was able to access my desktop on my first attempt using your new experimental feature that uses a Google Account.
I am very impressed by the streaming quality of the video and audio.
Keep up the great work.
What do i need to configure on a fios modem to get remote access from outside my home.
So I've read some of the replys to these posts and here's what I've got: I have set all network settings (as well as my firewall and computer settings) properly on my iPad (original, not iPad 2.) This application does not function using a 3G Mobile Hot Spot with the iPad. It will connect with my home wi-fi network, but not my 3G Mobile and I have tried EVERYTHING. Kind of a bummer. Not really surprising because I would imagine that this application requires a strong data feed and while 3G is good, it's just not great. Maybe 4G offers better tidings. However, at this point this application seems to be neither worth my time or money. I will note that I have not tried connecting to my computer from a separate wi-fi source (i.e. free wi-fi at Panera.) If that also fails, I will not invest in future products from this company. If it works, I will swiftly post here in an effort to be fair.
WORKS!!
I own a iPad2 and use Splashtop to connect to my PC over 3G.
- Wifi works
- 3G works
- Local connection works
- After opening some ports in my router I was able to connect from work to my house.
I als own LogMeIn Ignition, but Splashtop is awesome and the best.
... also the speed and reaction time is almost realtime.
Can you post instructions on how to adjust firewall settings in McAffee to allow remote access to my laptop from my iPad? I disabled my McAffee and then installed Splashtop Streamer but I still cannot connect. I did do the port forwarding on my Netgear router and listed Splashtop as trusted. I can access my laptop via wifi but I need to access it over 3g and I cannot seem to get it. What else can I try?
I leave in UK and am using Virgin broadband, i need to access this app over 3g but there's nothing here to assist me. can anyone help me please
Hi all,
The latest version v1.6.5.2 for iOS and v1.6.5.3 for Windows Streamer, v1.6.5.1 for Mac Streamer should improve connection via 3g a lot. However, this version is still not able to deal bad/ or unstable bandwidth well, we are keeping the work on improvement via 3g connection.
it appears that this thread has received much more attention than a couple of others asking this question. i preface my question with this statement because i am curious about the HP Touchpad and connecting remotely over a 3g/4g connection or a remote wifi location like Starbucks, etc. can i assume that the same steps for the ipad/iphone will work for the Touchpad?
@Mike, yes, the setup is the same for the HP Touchpad. The simplest way to enable connectivity is with "Internet Discovery". Carriers may block gmail/gtalk services, so the port forwarding method may be more reliable, but also more technically involved to setup.

Hi all,
If you are using 3g and have a sometimes connects but sometimes unable to connect, please try our new mechanism to sacrifice the streaming quality by reduce the streaming size(only first 60 seconds). This needs to update Windows streamer v1.7.0.1 and to be enabled by importing a registry file, please check this link for details.

Please also share us the test result.
Hi all,
Another new update with feature for connection via 3G and unstable wifi network already released, welcome to have a try.
This new feature will dynamically detect the available bandwidth and give a proper pre-defined streaming size to increase the connectivity. Please follwow the stesp to enable it. (currently only for iOS/Android client + Windows Streamer)
1.update iOS app to latest version v1.7.5.4 from Apple app store (Android v1.9.8.6 for HD, v1.6.5.6 for non-HD)
2.update Windows Streamer v1.7.5.4 from http://www.splashtop.com/streamer/download
3.enable option "Optimize for your network" from ipad/settings (Gear icon on upper right). Android is enabled by default.
