Select Splashtop Remote from the Windows Start menu to display the five-tab Splashtop Remote Streamer dialog box, or use the icon in the Status Bar.  Open the Security tab; then you can change the existing security code.  A message will be displayed after a security code has been changed successfully.

security_code.png

Your security code MUST be between 8 and 20 characters long;  MUST contain both letters and numbers;  and may optionally contain the following special characters:

/  (  )  $  &  @  "  .  ,  !  '  [  ]  {  }  #  %  ^  *  _  |  ~  <  >

note.gif  NOTES:

  • In the Security tab illustrated above, the term "password" was changed to "security code" effective with Splashtop Streamer v1.5.5.0 and later versions.
  • A blue checkmark will display to the right of each input box after you have typed an acceptable security code, and it must be identical in both fields.   The security code must satisfy the defined rules as detailed above.  If you do not see a blue checkmark after typing the security code, please confirm that you typed at least 8 characters (but less than 20) which include letters and numbers, but no illegal characters like ` = + ? -:;(space)
  • The message "Your security code is saved" will appear below the second input box once the security code has been set up successfully.
  • Sometimes, you might not realize it, but the characters you typed may not be the characters that are actually input into the Security Code field, due to a variety of reasons such as the input-method being enabled, or Num-Lock disabled, etc.  If you can't get past the security code setup, please also try to type a simple one like "test1234" using a utility like NotePad, then Copy and Paste it into the Security Code field in the Streamer dialog box, to see if it works.

The computer is on a network and is setup to require a user ID and password to log in.  This only allows me to enter a password.  Unless there is something that I am not understanding about the process, this doesn't help

Hi Michael,

When you're using iPad and attempting to connect your computer, the first prompt window for password is asking that one you setup in Streamer. This is using to protect your computer from remote connection. After you input the password, and you should be able to see the Windows user account screen (if your pc is now in log-off state). Then you can login the user with password accordingly.  Hope this helps.

@Matt,

Could you try below and see if it works?

1. Reset the securite code(password) on Streamer

2. Delete old profile from tablet and let your tablet auto scan your computer again.( or manually add a new profile)

3. Connects your computer with the new password

I have tried all of these suggestions, even to reinstalling. I cannot log into the computer because it says the security code is wrong. i have turned off sharing in the sys prefs. Am running Mac OS 10.7. I am writing a book on the iPad and want to include this app but would like it to work first.

@Patsy Lanclos,
Please do a experiment to set "test1234" as security code and see if any difference.

Steps>

1. Open Streamer - Security tab, reset the security code to "test1234"
2. Delete old profile on iPad, and let your iPad auto scan your computer. Try to connect your computer again with security code: test1234

@Patsy Lanclos,

Your case looks like the connection issue, but not security code error. Please refer below link to check your settings:

I am running OS 10.7 (Lion). My System Prefs (Security) are not exactly like the ones displayed on the website. I have the firewall off.

@Patsy Lanclos,

The security code setting should be in Streamer (not in system preference). Try this -> from Mac menu bar, click Streamer icon and select "Preference" to launch Streamer, and then switch to security tab. (refer attached file)

I cannot connect my HP TouchPad to my PC as I have the ''Wrong Security Code, Could not connect''.

I have successfully installed the SplashTop Streamer onto my PC. I have entered a simple 9 character password that is comprised of several numbers and letters. I am successfully logged into my GMail account.

I have downloaded the SplashTop app onto my TouchPad. SplashTop has found my PC. I have typed in the SplashTop security code, dozens of times, and every time I receive this message: "Wrong security code etc"

I have tried removing my PC from the TouchPad SplashTop app and refinding it, but nothing changes.

I have allowed SplashTop access through the Windows Vista firewall.

I have retyped the same password into both the SplashTop PC Streamer, and the TouchPad app numerous times yet I still get the same message.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks.

The above message could have been written by me. It is exactly my problem and it has never been solved both devices on same network, within 12" from each other, no firewalls, no problems with any other remote apps --- just this one. Would love to get this problem solved.

Hi All,

For HP Touchpad:

Wrong security code is a known issue, we are fixing it, please setup another security code from streamer with all CAPS letter and digits to work around it.

We are working on a fix for the HP Touchpad issue.

All, the latest release 1.1.2 no longer has the bug which requires an all CAPS password.  However, you must follow the requirements as Jaff documented above.  Please try and let us know if you still run into this issue.

Cannot connect to MacBook Pro (10.6.8) from iPad 1 or iPhone 4S (running ios 5.1). Have reinstalled Splashtop Streamer on Mac and Splashtop remote on both ios devices. All devices on same home network. Have tried with Mac firewall on and off. No connection.

When I first connect to MacBook, the MacBook displays (ipad is connected). Do not see MacBook desktop on iPad. After couple seconds message on MacBook disappears, then "Splashtop Remote Cannot connect to your computer is displayed on iPad" Some scenario for iPhone.

Have read for the past 2 hours on this site tried everything I can find. No luck.

What else can I do? I see many others having same connection issue. What can be done?

Is there any way I can completely disable the security code?  I really liked it when I didn't have to mess with it.  I'm inside my own firewall which I'd guess a large portion of people are that access this from wifi devices.  This is a MAJOR error that we're now forced to use this.

@Jon P,

There's is no way to disable security code protection, but you can input this code in your tablet/phone in advance, thus you can directly connect without any code asking.

Any way to have the desktop application not remember the password?  We are considering using this in a college and do not want 50 teachers to all use the same password to connect to an instructor PC.  We are looking for something where launching the desktop application has them create a new password each time for the ipad to connect to just for that session.  Is there a way to do this with splashtop?
