When I tried to run an application in full-screen mode, a message appeared which said "Splashtop Remote currently does not support applications that require direct screen access. Please reconfigure the application to run in windowed mode." Why?

When applications that support 3D rendering are running in full-screen mode, such as Windows Media Center, their graphics engines are drawing directly to the computer's screen, as opposed to within a window on the screen ("windowed mode"). When an application is drawing directly to a full screen without copying the picture frame through the screen-rendering APIs of Microsoft® Windows®, Splashtop currently cannot capture the desktop screen. This situation frequently occurs with games that are running in full-screen mode on the remote computer. Configure the application to run in windowed mode, then try again.

Is seeing Windows Media Center in full screen never to be available?

This is one of the features that makes your program a keeper or a deleter.

You need to add a feature that will get Windows Media Center out of window mode as most will be in that mode most of the time. I would have to say this is a great app but if i cannot access my media center due to being in windowed mode than i have no use for it.

You are in a catch 22 if you have window media center in full windowed mode, and launch this app and remote into the PC, You are instantly dropped out of the media center, and can not access it. It would be very useful to have access to the program so you can record programs or check on some.

I hope you can fix this problem soon.

Not sure if only 6 people wanting this will work, but you can add me to the list. I already paid for the program so not much I can do about that, but it would great if this feature was available. I don't currently have a remote for my media center machine and this would be nearly perfect for me to be able to use my tablet as the remote. +1 for the app able to view systems with full screen apps!

I've got a decent remote but would love to use my tablet. That's the reason I bought this app. Maybe it will come.

I also think a fix would be really nice to run Windows Media Center on my Kindle Fire. Thanks

You can add another 15 people with the same problem to the list. I and another 14 of my work and personal friends (which i am starting to feel guilty about recommending this app to them at the moment) are also having the same problem with running programs and games in full screen. Other remote desktop apps seem to be able to (teamviewer/logmein ignition etc).... Kind of makes this app pointless if you can't go full screen!!!. We need a fix for this very soon... or how do we all get our money back? as its not fit for purpose as it is.....

p.s. configuring the program/game for windowed mode is not an option. Its not very good professional advice!. Rather like a car dealer informing customers when they purchase a new car from them saying '3rd gear on your new car does not work, so just skip from 2nd to 4th and don't use 3rd'. We need a viable answer or fix please.

I would also like to know about this. Particularly how this demo is running  http://blog.laptopmag.com/splashtop-thd-shown-streaming-skyrim-from-pc-to-tegra-tablet-with-zero-lag

It shows a desktop PC streaming Skyrim to a tablet at CES. It appears that Skyrim is running in full screen mode.

Is this part of an upcoming update?

@Jake,

Thanks for your interest in Splashtop.   The CES Splashtop THD version you saw will be released in coming future(current plan is March). It is fully optimized for Tegra3 so will only work on Tegra3 based tablet.

for Prime users: Asus decided to bundle the non-HD version with TF Prime right now because Asus likes to support "pinch-zoom" which is only available on "non-HD" version.   HD version is optimized for full screen experience without pinch-zoom.

Why is the only Splashtop reply ti this whole thread an answer to what one user saw about a future product on one tablet?  What about the real issue here?  Media Center is the main reason I bought the App, and it doesn't open due to the full screen issue.  What can I do to fix that?  Oddly enough I did get WMC to opn when using the free Splashtop Browser App.  Please post comments to address the issue.

Neil_V, Because it sounds like they are excited about the features the Tegra3 based tablet app is going to be able to do and leave all us lower class tablets to fend for ourselves on what they have given us already....

Hi all,

We heard your voice.

Actually, we are actively working on the capability to play WMC in full screen. However, we still need some time, we'll invite you all to have a try once we get it ready.

Another chance you can play WMC in full screen right away(CES demo is also this case) is to enable nVidia GeForce optimization if your computer display is nVidia GeForce and in the supported list. This doesn't matter what client devices you are using including iOS, android..., please check this link for necessary requirements and know how to enable it and its limitations.

Hi,

Untill two days ago I could operate my HTPC which runs Media Portal with my Asus Trasformer (Honey Comb). Sitting in another room I could watch TV etc. Now I have the Transformer Prime (Ice Cream Sandwich) and every time I take over the HTPC and activate  TV , Splashtop disconnects and I get the Message
"Splashtop Streamer has detected that your computer has changed the audio settings.

For streaming sound to remote devices, the audiochannels has to be set to stereo and the sampling rate must be between 32000 and 48000 Hz."

I haven't changed anything on my HTPC for months.

No problem anymore. The problem was a setting in Media Portal which didn't react in Android HoneyComb.

its all very well putting together an update for wmc to run full screen, but im not using wmc and have no interest in wmc! . i use windows7(32bit) with an ipad2, i have no interest in the minority android o/s or tegra 2/3 chipsets. i have many programs i want to use in full screen, oracle vrm and spectaculator/amiga emmulator etc etc... what are you going to do about the generic everyday programs that need full screen to work? are you working on this major issue too?...

You may want to fact check about android being the minority, but I understand running a locked down inferior machine gets rough at times.

Perhaps a minority was a bit of a harsh quote. More of an 'google os currently mainly in mobile phones'...I have a Samsung galaxy s2 which is running android 2.3.3 (icecream soon i hope) which I do quite like, a acer iconia tab with 3.1 which is also very nice but does like to crash, and a jailbroken iphone4. My iPad2 is also jail broken, so it's not exactly locked down / inferior so as to speak, the ios devices are just as open as android when jail broken. Anyway, the issue isn't so much the slave device, it's more a case of server software running of the host device, in this case splashtop is the server software running on windows 7 32bit....

Yes this is very frustrating, previous versions of this application have permitted me to run splashtop remote on my ipad 2 and access games using full screen settings with no problems at all on my Win 7 64 bit system. I recently purchased a gaming laptop running win 7 64 bit and after installing splashtop remote all of a sudden i get this same message. This is definatly a deal breaker for this application, if u can not access full screen programs then the app will be useless to me. I am not going to reconfigure programs to run in windowed mode to access them remotley. Please fix this problem as it makes the app obsolete for me and any number of other users.

I love your application it works very well.  The tuner streams smoother and clearer through splashtop  then on ORB caster on my playbook. I really wish you could use it in full screen mode also. I know its probably hard to do but maybe someone will have an idea of how to solve the problem. I have tried a mix of programs and yours is by far the best.  Thanks for your effort! Also playing pc games on my Playbook is pretty awesome!

The strange thing about this is that it is sometimes possible to watch media center tv in full screen mode without any hassle, did just that only two days ago. Also watched picasa pictures full screen. Today (after some update of the streamer), it is not possible.  Even showed some tv from my home htpc at work on my ipad some time ago, everybody thought it was awesome. Why do splashtop complain about not supporting full screen mode at irregular intervals, and somtimes does it without any problems? Having media center on the ipad is my main use of splashtop, only works occationally though.

This MC thing together with the issue with android remote dropping the windows 8 screen resolution in half every time the remote connection is established. Two days now trying to get new  Win 8 media center PC to work properly. The excitement in the beginning soon changing to frustration and anger :(

So it's been a year and you guys still have this problem? Why not give the user the option to allow splash top to be in full screen or not? I've written an app to block the popup and guess what, your app works perfectly fine in my Droid Razr playing D3D fullscreen.

I'm a software developer myself, I understand one possible reason you want to restrict this is because of all the issues and complaints about it not working on a lot of devices.

I've stopped recommending your product to people as I have been for the past couple of year, this is just unacceptable to not offer any type of work around after this long. You may have a great product, but it would be like buying a Ferrari that doesn't come with headlights when you really need to see in the dark. I'll go with the corvette that actually does everything I need it to do, performs sufficiently enough and costs a fraction of the price.

Here is the workaround, which I came up with that solved my remote access to Windows Media Center (Windows 8 64-bit)

This solution has not been posted anywhere else, yes I am the genius behind it!

Create a new shortcut on desktop

Target: %windir%\ehome\ehshell.exe -window

Run: Minimized

Clicking this new shortcut will open it up without the popup because it is minimized.

DO NOT CLICK THE MINIMIZED ICON OR YOU WILL GET POPUP!!!

Double click your shortcut a second time and it will be available in a window, at which point you can make it fullscreen.

-> Hope this helps everyone else that loves SPLASHTOP as much as I do. <-

Opps, guess you cannot make it full screen - gets popup, but at least you are now in windowed mode.  =P

There is an easy way to view Windows Media Centre via Splashtop 2. Download a free program for your PC or Mac called The Maximizer. (It's a program usually used to help resize WMC on dual monitors but works great to view WMC on a mobile device via Splashtop 2); Connect to your computer via Splashtop. Open WMC via The Maximizer tray icon. It will now open in a small window instead of full screen. You can then resize WMC by dragging the corner of the screen to fill your mobile device. The good thing is that when you close WMC and then reopen it via The Maximizer it opens at the previous size so you don't need to resize it again. I found that if you have trouble dragging to resize, select the option in WMC settings to have WMC always on top while you resize. I have tested this using the Windows 7 Beta 1.5 and can view WMC on my ipad perfectly. For me this fixes an otherwise really annoying problem and now makes this app one of the best apps I have used, hope it helps others. I don't take credit for this idea, I found it after a few hours of searching for a fix and thought a few people here might also find it useful. I actually am very surprised Splashtop haven't been able to fix this problem when there is a simple solution to fix it. Maybe they should add a tutorial for it on their website until a permanent fix is developed??
