I have a slight problem with connecting to my mac mini mediacenter. When I configured everything on the mini (hooked up to a monitor) and my ipad everything just worked fine. When I then put the mini where it belongs (and where no monitor is connected to it) I start having problems with the connection. Splashtop tries to establish a connection, but looses it even before it's there. And then it tries to connect again and sometimes I see the 'hints' page turn up for a splitsecond before it's lost again. Does a monitor have to be connected to the computer being controlled remotely? Is there a setting to chose if no monitor is connected?
Please help, because I rather prefer your splashremote to the vcl remote I was using until now.
cheers!

Hi Steve,
The current implementation does require a monitor. The main use case was to enable access to your PC occasionally. We will need to investigate to support a headless system. Sorry for the inconvenience.
Hi,
Just one more person registering interest in a "headless system" :-) Looking specifically at using a Macmini with Snow Leopard Server but without a monitor! Figured that an iPad would do just as well.
I am very interested in using this software for a monitor-less computer. I want to be able to carry my Mini for portable processing power when needed and not have to deal with network latency.
Hi, same here.
I have a mini attached to a Plasma TV. Splashtop works fine with the iPad but when I shut off the TV, the connection is lost. Guys, I want to use the MacMini powed iPad lying in my bed WITHOUT my TV consuming 200watts downstairs in the living room...
thanks for fixing this quickly.

...why does Splashtop check the Monitor connection anyway?
I just wanted to add my support for a monitor free mac environment. I also have a mac mini, and would love to be able to use this app to control it.
Here is a trick I have used for headless macintosh systems:
Plug in a VGA display adapter into the video plug on the macintosh. Please note that this is not a digital to digital adapter, use the one that come with the mini (dvi to vga 15 pin). This will _tell_ the macintosh it has a display and configure the required Mac OS internals to support video.
I have not needed this trick for a few years - now I use network kvm's for remote support.
Please let me know it it still works.
I have the same problem with MAC MINI 2010 with HDMI port output.
I use MAC as an audio source with media server software and LINN DS player.
It is the only purpose of using it, so only from time to time I switch on attached LCD TV via HDMI.
My intention to use splashtop streamer and IPAD app was to remotely down the MAC after use without switching on the TV and connecting mouse. I want to have mac mini WITHOUT any TV/monitor and mouse/keyboard. Switching it on, automatically load the needed apps.
I'm disappointing by monitor requirement. It makes splashtop useless :-(
BTW, included HDMI->DVI adater doesn't help, maybe HDMI to VGA adapter would help....
would users active in the background fail to connect for the same reason a monitor is required? We have a mini in the living room and I would like the iPad to get into the admin account running in the background rather than the household account.
I have the same problem. I have no problem when i turned on the monitor connected via hdmi. but once i switch off the monitor and want to control it from outside it can't be done. disappointing. what's the use of a remote control when I have to leave the monitor on when i go out? sad. not energy saving.
@Colin,
Please install our virtual driver from the Mac Streamer/Settings/Advanced dialogand try again.
@David,
Splashtop Remote supports this case a Mac without monitor attached for a long time, please check my post on Dec. 30, 2011 and welcome to have a try.
Are there any plans to add support to the display driver for different resolutions? I'm running a mac mini connected to my TV over hdmi so I have to use the splashtop driver. Connecting to it from my PC is working great, but I want to use a resolution somewhere between 1024x768 and 2560x1440
Streamer is running on my Mac with its monitor connected to a KVM switch. If the monitor is toggled to a different computer, will Splashtop Streamer also fail to connect? I just tried loading the virtual display driver to see if that might work. I'm not really sure if that was intended to correct the problem in this thread, however.
@Jesse Wonder Clark,
Can't you find where the virtual driver is from Mac streamer?
Please install our virtual driver from the Mac Streamer/Settings/Advanced settings. After the driver installed, it'll ask you to restart your computer, after computer restart, you should be able to connect your mac mini without monitor attached.
@Jesse Wonder Clark ,
The only trick for headless computer is to install our "virtual driver" before connecting to it, if you still can't connect to your mac after our virtual driver installed(and computer restart), it may have some other reasons to block it. I suggest that you can wait for our next update and try again. It's coming these two days but for iPad only.
Sorry we don't have a specific link for virtual driver or headless mac, but the attachment is its screenshot. Please also make sure your mac is not entering sleeping mode whenever you want to connect to.
