My work PC logs off after 15 minutes which disconnects Splashtop remote so I can't access it. I don't want to turn off the log off feature because of security reasons...when I was using Logmein, it was no problem at all. I like Splashtop better, but will have to go back to Logmein if I can't get this problem resolved.
Note: Connect to a logoff computer was already supported!

Hi Julie,
Thanks for the feedback. We will work on this functionality. Please check back for new releases.
I have the same issue with the computer I share with my children. I would like to be able to access my open session (just change user) despite another user is log in. I am accessing AirVideo app frm my iPad and it works despite other users are using the computer. I am running Windows Vista Home Premuim. Thanks,
This is ridiculous... I just paid for the iPad app only to find out you guys are living in the stone-age! VNC, RDP, AIRVIDEO, ETC, ETC, ETC are able to connect when you are logged out of an account, but you make it sound like it is a huge undertaking to incorporate this into your app when it is obvious it is not since a free vnc client/server can do it but you can't. Get on with it people... if you think your customers don't care or are always logged in, then think again! Why on GODS GREEN EARTH would I leave my machine logged in when I am away? The only reason to use your app is when I am not at home, and yet when I am at home I log out of my machine because I have important information on there I don't need everyone digging into, and yet you guys act surprised because your first year inept developers don't know how to code!
I just bought this app and now find I can't access my PC when logged out - is there a timeframe for this to be fixed?
I also just bought the App, I think It is great.
But I cannot use it, because my PC is automatically logged off.
Could you please provide approximately when this feature will be released ?
We are actively working on it but still without a solid schedule, please stay tuned.
Same situation here.... I need to control multiple user accounts on Windows 7. As soon as I try switching user accounts while connected remotely it drops my connection instantly... Now I physically have to go back to the remote computer to log in again??? Wtf? If this isn't fixed within a reasonable time frame I would like my money back. How did you leave out this important detail?
We Cannot use your app unless this is resolved. Let us know what to do .
Thanks.
The problem I have is that this did work before I updated to the latest version. Now the app will not allow connection unless there is an ACTIVE session running.
I have even tried to RDP into my machine, then run Splashtop to control that session, but as soon as I minimize or close that RDP session I can't do anything.
Just purchased this app. Its useless to me without this feature. Hard to believe its one of the top apps in the store and they removed this key feature during the last release.
I have the same problem with my Windows system being locked. It worked without issue until the last update up the desktop server application. It would connect and be presented with my lockscreen, put in my password and go into windows. Now if the system is locked upon connection the screen in entirely black and there is no mouse input. I did notice that keyboard commands do go through to the server (I was playing with it while sitting in front of my computer).
As I said, it worked without issue in the previous version of the (desktop) software, so you guys obviously changed something.
Kinda pointless to make an application to "log into" your computer from another device, if you cannot make it actually log into the computer...
Same here - purchased the app but it's completely useless to me now if I'm expected to have to physically go to the machine and log in first before it can be operated from my iPad. I find it both stunning and very worrying that this issue has been reported for more than six months now and you don't have a fix yet.
same problem with my Windows system being locked. til he last update for desktop server application was no problem. It connected, put in my password and go into windows. Now if the system is locked upon connection the screen in entirely black and thats it!
You should know whats to do! And do it very quickly!!!
If it is a locked session, there is no problem, but if you need a pre-login connection, seems to be still not possible...
same problem here when i try to connect with my server i cant connect because nobody is logged in.
So I read online how great this program is and pay my 2 bucks, and the program doesn't work, can i get a refund? Did I just fund another batea program, kind of makes me angry
I also purchased the app with the idea of logging on to my account remotely, even when someone is logged in (to Windows Vista) on a different account. It's virtually useless to me as is. I bought based on the app reviews... a mistake?
I get a black screen when windows is in lock mode as well. Looking at my PC and iPad side by side, I found out that I can still login through the black screen if I type my password in the dark. However, once you blindly log in, the screen will still be black on Spashtop. At this point, you can fix it by exiting Spashtop then connecting again. After that, it works fine.
Hope this helps someone. I know its no substitute for a fix, but it's a workaround I use for now.
Supposedly with this new version (1.5.0.1) the windows streamer should allow you to connect even when you are logged off. Well simply it doesn't work.
As soon as I log off from my pc, it's gone forever. The streamer exists and I can never connect back.
I also see there is a splash top service running in the background, what is that supposed to do? If the streamer exists and I lose connectivity with my pc anyway, what is the point?
Doesn't anyone else have the same problem?
*I meant the streamer exits not exists
I still get the black screen when logging in (win7x64). This is ridiculous.
Splashto Remote starts supporting connection in logoff state from latest v1.5.0.1 streamer, the behavior will be:
1. Tap Splashtop Remote icon to connect, and you'll see the login screen of Windows
2. Type correct Windows password to login
3. While logging in Windows, Splashtop Remote will break the connection immediately, and retrying the connection
4. You can keep tapping retry from ipad till Windows logged in and launched all auto-run applications including Splashtop Remote
Please leave your scenarios if you still can't make connection from logoff state.
Ps. Latest client version v1.5.0.0 for iOS also released!
Dear Jaff,
First of all, I want to use Splashtop remote through the internet. I have setup Splashtop streamer listen to port 6790 and I have setup my router to forward ports 6790 to 6792. I also have a dyndns hostname because I have a non-static IP ADSL line. (I don't really want to use my gmail account for this and I really don't see the point, or why I have to)
It works just fine as long as I am logged in to my computer and the streamer is running.
If I log off or restart my PC, even if the splashtop services are running, the remote cannot connect to it.
Am I doing something wrong here? I also have the black screen problem. What I mean is, if I log off my PC, I loose connectivity with the streamer, If I lock it, the remote connects, but all I see is a black screen (as many here have reported).
I'm sure you can code this to work better. The splashtop service that runs in the background should give the user the ability to connect, even if the streamer is not running...
Jaff - we know how to use the product. The problem is, it doesn't work. For me, after I "tap splashtop remote to connect" I get a black screen. the rest of your instructions are useless if the first step doesn't work. I have to go back to using streamer v1.4.0.4 for a working version. Of course, no version I have used yet actually works when not logged in.
The new update didn't change anything for me either. If the pc is locked i only get a black screen on my ipad. If i log off windows, the ipad wont even see the pc. Running win 7 64bits, ios 4.3.3 and latest streamer and ipad client.
There're still following black screen on client side issues in latest version(v1.5.0.1):
1. if your Mac OS X is Lion : your client device(ex. ipad) will get black screen, we are working it, please stay tuned
2. if your iOS on ipad2 is iOS beta 2 or 3 : black screen only on ipad2, iphone4 and ipad1 is okay, we are working on it, please stay tuned
3. if your Windows streamer is Win7 and display is Nvidia GeForce : in this case, your client devices will get black screen, please check this link for a workaround to disable nvidia optimization feature.
http://support-remote.splashtop.com/entries/20169946-optimized-for-...
I figured I hadn't restarted since upgrading to v1.5.0.1 so I thought I'd give that a go. Sure enough up popped my computer on my iPad2 as soon as I logged in. So I tried locking my computer (your still logged in) and I got my Windows login screen. So then I tried logging out and as soon as I did my computer was no longer available on my iPad.
Now I don't have any black screen issues, my PC is just no longer available as soon as I log out.
Dear Jaff
@Manolis Kp ,
Sorry for that incorrect link, just corrected it. Please try again.
Thanks!
The Nvidia fix worked for me - at least I don't get black screen anymore. I still can't connect though when logged off.
I updated the pc client today, restarted, and it solved the issue for me. Im on win7 64bits, geforce 9600gt. Now im rating this 5 stars ˆ-ˆ
My version in IOS is 1.5.0.0 and 1.5.0.1 for my PC... but still can't connect in the log off state... what can I do?
We have found and fixed two issues regards log-off mode, please wait for next update. Thanks.
- Fails to connect when XP system is logged-off
- Fails to connect in logged-off state via internet discovery feature
@Ricky - What OS are you running on your PC?
@Kelly - Some of us are using Windows 7 and cannot connect when logged off, is there an update on why we still have an issue?
Thanks.
Try this possible solution is to check a registry key if you can't connect to the Windows streamer in a logoff state:
<Steps>
a. Launch start menu, type "regedit" in search box
b. Find below registry key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Splashtop Inc.\Splashtop Remote Server
c. Check the Data value of "LoginEnable", and set as "1" if it's "0"
Please don't let RDP session co-exist with Splashtop Remote in this case.
I change it to 1 and it really works... but it change back to 0 after I log off again... I can't fix it at 1...
"don't let RDP session co-exist with Splashtop Remote means don't use 2 similar RDP program at one time?
In my testing I found that changing the value did allow logging in from a logged off state. However I found that if I chose "Switch user" instead of "Log off" the the registry value would revert to 0. If I made sure that I logged off completely then I found the value would stay as "1".
Sorry for the inconvenience by current limitation. We're working on this issue and will try to fix it next update. It's coming soon, please stay tuned.
Same thing here. Running windows 7. Can't access when my pc is in "sleep" mode.
Yes.. I must be able to access the desktop remotely when the desktop is in 'log-off' stage or 'different user' stage. Totally useless until the key features are enable...!
I just brought this product today and I have to say that I'm pretty disappointed with it.
Seriously, not being able to connect to the desktop when the desktop is not logged on is absolutely ridiculous and people should be made aware of this BEFORE purchasing.
Either fix the problem or tell us how to get a refund of our money.
Hi jaff - your last reply on this topic was Aug 08, more than 2 months ago. Do you have any status update on these problems that we are all facing? Thanks.
Hi all,
Splashtop Remote did support connect to a logoff Windows computer, please try the following suggestions:
1.update Windows Streamer to latest v1.6.0.1
2.enable Internet discovery by login a gmail account on both tablet/phone and pc
It's better to make sure you can remotely connect to your computer then try to remotely connect to a logoff computer. For the case computer powered off, you need to make sure your computer can be remotely waked up first.
Please let us know if you still can't connect to your computer which is in a logoff state.
This is still an issue in the latest version (1.6.0.1) of the streamer.It's not even when I log off...it's when I disconnect from my remote session with the machine leaving the user logged in. I immediately see the auto-discovery for that machine disappear from the client. Is there a fix for this coming soon?
I'm having the same issue here. Running the latest streamer version for Windows 1.6.5.3. Noticed value in regedit for LoginEnable was 0 and changed it to 1, but after I restarted computer, it ends up changing it back to 0. Should it stay at 0? Any idea when it will be fixed? Strangely enough, it seems to be a new problem because it was working prior to 1.6.0.1.
@danr23,
We just test your case internally but did not see the phenomenon you mentioned.
Would you mind uninstall v1.6.5.3, then reboot pc, then re-install v1.6.5.3 again to see if there's any difference?
When you first time install Streamer, this key won't be generated(but internal default is 1), if you do a "logoff" then this key will be generated. Anyway, it should stay at "1" to keep connection successful when computer is under logoff state.
Hi there, I am having the same issue, whether the PC is waked up from sleep or restarted. I cannot get splash top client for HP touchpad to connect when the PC is "logged off" mode, and/or locked mode (basically waiting for a password to log in) I have upgraded the streamer server to 1.6.5.3 and verified that the regedit key for loginEnable is set to 1.
Any ideas?
When the PC is logged in , it works great, but I cannot have my PC auto login upon restart or wake from sleep (I can, but this would become a security issue)
Running windows 7 x64 Ultimate edition, HP touchpad client.
Thanks.
-Andy
@Jaff:
You keep telling us this should work, but from the numerous comments here, it is obvious that it doesn't.
Now, could you please be so kind as to tell me how I can receive a refund for this product (as per my comment from Oct-09 2011 07:25) that DOES NOT work.
Thank you.
Darren
Hi all,
I think I should give a clearer description about "LOGOFF". The LOGOFF here means a state that is waiitng for user to log in, if you are in "Sleep" or "Hibernate" or "powered off" state, you should use "Wake-on-LAN" first instead of directly tap-to-connect. Here is another link describes how to use "Wake-on-LAN".
http://support-remote.splashtop.com/entries/514305-how-do-i-connect-to-my-computer-if-it-is-in-sleep-or-hibernate-mode-wake-on-lan
As our current collection, if your Windows(Win7) already gets expired, although you can continue to use it, but it'll every time prompt an activation window to ask user to activate it when starting Windows. This window will block the connection from Splashtop Remote.
@Darren,
If you are still not able to connect from a "logoff" state and want a refund, because this is totally controlled by Apple, you need to contact app store for further process. Anyway, here are some useful info about how to get refund from Apple could be a reference. Sorry about this inconvenience.
Here are the steps to request refund from Windows iTunes or Mac iTunes:
1.To begin the process of requesting a refund from the iTunes store, you will need to first open iTunes.
2.Navigate to your purchase history by clicking "Store">"View My Account">>"Purchase History."
3.Inside your Purchase History page, select "Report a Problem."
4.In the window that opens up to report your problem, describe your reason for requesting a refund. Be very polite and very detailed as to why you are requesting a refund and what exactly it is for.
5.That's it! Apple customer service should usually respond to you within 48 hours and let you know if your request has been granted.
Another reminding: When you are trying "connect from logoff state", please don't change the default port 6783, it's a current limitation, else, it'll connect fail.
Another reminding is : When you see the login screen, and type your ID/password to log in, Splashtop Remote will disconnect immediately but you can try to connect again couple minutes later after Windows booting complete.
Hope this helps.
@Jaff: Already followed those steps you outlined for the Apple Store a few weeks back, and after completing those steps, a message was displayed effectively saying the ball was in your court (can't remember the exact message displayed, but they said it wasn't up to them).
No subsequent emails have been received by them in regards to this.
@Darren,
Could you create another support request to Apple from your account again? different supporter may have different response, we indeed not able to do refund for you.

@Jaff:
Many thanks for the links, they are much appreciated.
Before I go through the process of trying to get another refund, I'll give the Splashtop Remote software one more go, just because I *really* want it to work properly while the PC is logged off
I'm particularly interested in seeing if setting permissions on the LoginEnable 1 registry key/value will work.
It'll be a day or two away as I no longer have the software on one of my PC's, but I'll post an update here with the result.
Hello.. i'm using splashtop with a xp-computer and a motorola xoom. I leave the xp-computer with the windowsbutton together with the l-button. now i see the lock screen, where i have to put my password in. Monitor off an back home.
i can connect with my xoom and the screen was locked. everything works fine for me. than i can leave the pc using the virtual keyboard on xoom with the "windowsbutton and l". then the back-button on xoom and i'm back on android.
Next i can connect again and i will be back to my xp-computer and put in my password.
so the computer was save an i could reconnect with the portable device.
best regards Helmut
i just purchased this app for my touchpad and I am unable to use it when my laptop is logged off. I am not a tech person, please explain to me how I can get this to work, but in simplistic terms. Thanks!
@Julie,
Don't know which version of app and Streamer that you're using. Please make sure they are updated to latest version- Steamer(v1.7.0.4) & app(v 1.1.2). Also, shut down the Touchpad and reboot again to see if it helps.
If I knew I could not get on my desktop from my Kindle Fire when my desktop was turned off, I would not have bought it. The reason I bought it was to access my computer away from home. I won't leave it on when I'm not there. Yes, you have port forwarding info, but that's too much for me. Bad choice! Sorry I bought it now.
I agree with Nancy Brock. I just purchased the app this morning and it works fine if my laptop is turned on, but it isn't turned on when I'm away from home. That's when I thought I could use it. I also wish I had known this before I purchased.
Hi all,
If your computer is in powered-off state, it needs Wake-on-Lan feature to wake it up first before Splashtop Remote's connection.
However, currently, NOOK Color/Tablet and Kindle Fire still don't support this feature.
This link tells more details about limitations about WoL.
http://support-remote.splashtop.com/entries/514305-how-do-i-connect-to-my-computer-if-it-is-in-sleep-or-hibernate-mode-wake-on-lan
Hi,
Thanks for this response. However, I was at home, rebooted my PC and didn’t login on purpose. Splashtop couldn’t find my PC. After about 5 mins, Splashtop still couldn’t find my PC. So, I logged in, and the moment I did, Splashtop was able to find my PC. I think the streamer doesn’t get loaded until the user logs in.
Regards,
Aureo Capiral
@Aureo,
Please confirm the default starting port 6783 is still kept in both Streamer(computer) and your device.
Once you changed this default port 6783, logoff mode would not allow to be connected by Splashtop Remote.
same problem still here, newest version, win7 x64 enterprise, no login possible while computer is logged of and running, any news xet?
@Aureo, florian jacobi,
Have you enabled our Internet discovery featured with a gmail credential logged-in? This is necessary for remote connection case.
When you reboot your pc, please wait for Windows totally booted and then manually re-scan or re-launch Splashtop Remote to get a new searching.
Hi,
For me i found the solution. As i use googles application specific password system it seems splashtop interfered with that somehow,
Its not the only app tho, i also had problems with others in conjunction with app specific passwords.
However, out of the blue the server got disconnected and didnt reconnect due to the specific google password was no lonver valid,
So i set a new one, reconnected the splashtop server with it and it works again.
I dont think this is something within splashtop, its something google has to fix, especially as they tell you "you dont have to save this application specific password, you will only have to enter it once"...well...better save it.
Hello,
I currently own a blackberry playbook and am using your app and am having the same troubles mentioned here where I can't login to a windows 7 computer from my device. AmI doing anything wrong?
Thanks in advance
@Justin Didier,
What's state of your Win7, sleeping? hibernate? or powered off?
@Sidney Munji ,Alexander Diez ,
To awake a sleeping computer, please check this link: http://support-remote.splashtop.com/entries/514305-how-do-i-connect-to-my-computer-if-it-is-in-sleep-or-hibernate-mode-wake-on-lan
thank you Jaff
But prior to e noting you I tried everything written in the link you sent me, perhaps I didn't make myself completely clear . I seem to have tried everything that has been written in the posts that applied, as long as it has not been beyond my technical abilities, do you have real time help?
thanks
Alex
@Alex,
WoL feature currently only works in local network, and most times it may fail to awaken the computer up from sleeping mode by remote connection via gmail logged-in.
Please try it from local network first to make sure all settings are correctly done.
Here are the results of testing I've done using my Windows 7 Home Premium PC at home and a Windows Vista Pro PC at work. For remote connection purposes I'm using a DroidX phone using both wifi and 3G connections, and an Asus Transformer tablet using my local wifi network. In every situation I can successfully connect to my work PC running Windows Vista, regardless of it being logged on or not. I don't have Wake-on-lan enabled so I don't know if that works or not.
On my Windows 7 PC I get the same results others are reporting - if the computer goes to sleep, I can't connect regardless of the connection used (wifi or 3G). I also tried using a direct IP address connect as well as the gmail account method - no luck connecting either way.
I then tried the same procedure, disabling sleep mode and simply logging off the PC, then trying to connect. Same results, no connection possible. The instant I log back on, I can immediately connect to my Windows 7 PC using any of the above connection methods.
My experiences would seem to indicate this is definitely a Windows 7 issue, and not related to the computer being in a sleep state.
I've noticed that as soon as I log in, I get a popup stating the Splashtop Streamer has started (which I would assume means it's not running while logged off?).
Hopefully the good folks in Splashtop support can sort this all out. As others have already said, the product is of no use if I can't access a computer remotely when it's logged off.
@David Lutz,
This is my post before and may help for your case.
Try this possible solution to check a registry key if you can't connect to the Windows streamer in a logoff state:
<Steps>
a. Launch start menu, type "regedit" in search box
b. Find below registry key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Splashtop Inc.\Splashtop Remote Server
c. Check the Data value of "LoginEnable", and set as "1" if it's "0"
Please don't let RDP session co-exist with Splashtop Remote in this case.
ps.supposed your Streamer version is very new like v1.7.x.x.
The above suggestion (changing the registry key value) did indeed fix the problem! I can now log onto my Windows 7 PC remotely even when it is logged off thanks to this change! Perhaps this is something that should be configured automatically by the Splashtop Remote Server installer software during installation/upgrade? (Or perhaps give the installer the option to enable this)
@David Lutz,
Thanks for your great feedback.
Actually our installer enables this feature by default, not sure why your case happened. The only reason we can imagine is you may sometimes use other RDP tool simultaneously with Spalshtop Remote, it may have the chance to get this issue.
Hi,
I followed your suggestion:
a. Launch start menu, type "regedit" in search box
b. Find below registry key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Splashtop Inc.\Splashtop Remote Server
c. Check the Data value of "LoginEnable", and set as "1" if it's "0"
But there is no "LoginEnable" in Splashtop Remote Server.
Please help.
Thanks
@Paul Hertz ,
If you are running 32bits of Windows, the key path should be :
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Splashtop Inc.\Splashtop Remote Server
Please confirm ,please also remember to restart your computer or re-launch Splashtop Streamer after key modified.
Hi Jaff,
Thanks for your quick response.
I Have 64 bit Windows. Here is what I get - please help:
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
@Paul Hertz ,
If you don't have such a registry key existing, it's okay and same as "=1".
Are you attempting to connect your logoff pc from a local network or remote network?
Please attach your log file here for our further investigation. (get it from C:\Program Files (x86)\Splashtop\Splashtop Remote\Server)
Hi Jaff,
I have the exact situation as Paul Hertz, below are the settings:
1. Windows 7 32 bit
2. Ipad 2 OS version 5.1.1
3. Splashtop Win version 1.7.5.6
4. Splashtop Ipad version 1.7.5.4
5. Internet discovery is ON
I am able to connect with Splashtop when I am logged-in Windows (Splashtop finds my PC automaticallly through Internet Discovert) HOWEVER, when I log off and try to find my PC (not through the local area network), it says "could not reach....."
What is the name of the log file in ( C:\Program Files (x86)\Splashtop\Splashtop Remote\Server) so I can send to you as well?
Thanks.
I was able to login now. I had sent the restart command to my pc using your remote software, but with this new update it now works. I was just not able to see or type in the login page that comes up with Windows 7.
@Paolo Concio,
SPLog.txt is it.
Have you confirmed the key mentioned above? how do you logoff your Windows? directly from connection session on ipad?
Please restart your computer after confirm the reg key value and try again.
I will add my voice to the dozens above... This is such an obvious requirement that it unbelievable to me that it is not supported. The application is TOTALLY useless to me without the ability to connect to a logged out or locked computer and log in. Like so many others, and for security reasons like so many others, my computer is never open (unlocked) when I am not using it. Therefore, I need to log into it when I am remote. Every other remote access software I've used supports this functionality.
WOW after reading all the issues that everyone is having I think I will be asking for my money back.
You should charge more money for your app and make sure it works....
To all the other people out there, is there a better option for remote access? Or EVEN ONE THAT SIMPLY WORKS??!!
GOOD LUCK SPLASHTOP LTD, I THINK YOU'LL NEED IT.....
@Dwight Brooks, Deni Bevin ,
Spalshtop Remote does support connect to a PC(Windows) under logoff state or locked state. (sleep/hibernate/poweroff need another WoL feature to wake pc up first)
Have you tried totally uninstall Splashtop streamer for Windows on your pc, then reinstall again to see if there's difference?
@Dwight Brooks,
Could you confirm your registry key mentioned above (April 16) is '1'?
<Steps>
a. Launch start menu, type "regedit" in search box
b. Find below registry key:
32bits: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Splashtop Inc.\Splashtop Remote Server
64bits: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Splashtop Inc.\Splashtop Remote Server
c. Check the Data value of "LoginEnable", and set as "1" if it's "0"
Jaff, yes, LoginEnable is set to 1.
Still no joy. Lots of hope.
Maybe I'm on the Splashtop Server's "Do Not Like" list?
