Does Splashtop Remote support connection via 4G?

en11101701

Yes, our Splashtop Remote products do, in general, support connection via 4G.  However, the latest Splashtop Remote Desktop HD for Android, version v1.9.7.10, has a known issue on the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 tablet with Verizon 4G in the United States.

According to our own tests, we found that the Google Talk service is not stable over the Verizon 4G network.  The current workaround for this is to manually configure Port Forwarding on the home router.

Please take a look at this article for how to do ports forwarding: http://support-remote.splashtop.com/entries/514213-how-do-i-connect... (Requires some technical know-how...)

If YOU are also having problems with 4G connection, but you have a different situation (not the Samsung Galaxy Tab + Verizon situation mentioned above), then please let us know about it by entering a Comment below, and describe your case in detail.

Update: According to our user feedbacks, our app can work very well on AT&T LTE service. (20/12/2011)

I have not been able to log in on my Motorola Xoom since I got it back with the 4G install. It works on the Wi-FI network but not the 3G or 4G. I have verified my email and password in the internet discovery. uninstalled and re installed numerous times but nothing seems to work. Has anyone had this issue?

I'm having the same issue with my Droid Bionic. I can access Splashtop only through wi-fi, but not 4G. With wi-fi off, it still shows the 'Found Automatically' status but never connects. After a few minutes of trying to connect it just times out. I've also tried installing and uninstalling on my computer and my phone a few times.

I am using a newly upgraded Verizon 4G Motorola Xoom and cannot get a connection when on any network other than wifi.  I have verified my email and password in the internet discovery and used my gmail account to log in.  Please let me know when this is fixed as I will be glad to re-purchase the app at that time but will be requesting a refund for now...

Great app for xoom but only works in WIFI :(

I'm having the same issue as everyone else. No connection via 3G or 4G on my Moto Xoom, or Droid Bionic. Interestingly, I also cannot get it to connect on my 3G Droid 2 Global

Hello, same issue as above.  The app works brilliantly with wi-fi but i cannot connect through 3g or 4g.  I'm in Canada, with Rogers using an HTC EVO 3D.

I also have the Android Bionic and have the same issue.  I have done everything I have read in different forums.  Port Forwarding, manual ip setup, uninstall-reinstall shutting down both my firewalls (Norton 360 and Windows).  WiFi works fine.  I see the phone is trying to establish a connection but either times out OR Fails to connect.  4glite should be much faster than 3g so I understand that lag will not be an issue.  My main purpose of trying this app is to view my delivery trucks that run on a program that uses MS Silverlight.  It's very frustrating that such a great tool isn't working the way it should.  I understand tech changes overnight, but with the funding this company is recieving, I expect it to be fixed.  It directly effects the viewing capabilities while I'm out of the office.  Simply frustrating.

having the same problem with the thrive thru the verizon 4g LTE and apparently even when it is 3g mode... works very well thru wifi (have only tested on the same wifi network that my remote laptop is on however) but 'cannot connect' thru my 4g/3g mobile device. am considering putting my whole office on this tech if we can get this working.... somewhat defeats the purpose if it will only work on wifi networks in my case

All, we saw issues with Verizon 4G and were investigating.  However, it looks like Verizon resolved the network issue and we are not seeing an issue anymore without making any changes.  Please try now and let us know.  Also, please make sure to have the latest Streamer and Remote client on your systems.  If you still have issues, it would be helpful to know which carrier you are seeing the issue on.

@Scott, the most common issue for not being able to connect is your firewall and anti-virus settings blocking our Streamer application.  Please take a look at these tutorials as a reference: http://support-remote.splashtop.com/forums/298564-step-by-step-tutorials

@Victor ... Ok ... I followed the suggested items from the tutorial reference and got it to work.  To me it was difficult to determine where this info was an that it needed to be done.  I noted in the ticket that I feel that this should be put into the setup instructions since I would assume that most people would be using outside their home (or else they would just walk up their computer if they are already in the house).  I just feel that the whole process is made to seem sooooo simple but in reality it is actually much more involved than a simple 3 step process illustrated when opening up the app for the first time.

I had to change my firewall settings ... and change the wireless router to allow the port forwarding.

@ Steve Peck ... After I did this with my Galaxy tab 10.1 ... it was running with the 4G LTE.  Not sure if it is an issue on T-Mobile or not but it worked on my Verizon 4G network.

    Victor,

Nothing has changed  on my Verizon 4G Xoom as written above. The WiFi works fine but the 3g and 4g says "Found Automatically"  but still will not connect.

@ Victor(Splashtop),  got it working, i'm with Rogers Wireless in Canada.  Here's what i had to do.  I ran through the firewall exceptions and noticed that an exception for the spupnp.exe wasn't there so I installed it.  I then had to go to my wireless router.  Port forwarding had been set up but upnp service was disabled by default.  Once i enabled it, the router began showing the active port forwards (all from splashtop), and the 4G connection became active.  Hpe this helps someone else.

    @Adam, thanks for sharing!

Others, we have found that Verizon and possibly other carriers are not supporting the gtalk network again.  In this case, our internet discovery is not able to connect.  A work around for this is port forwarding.  Please take a look at this article: http://support-remote.splashtop.com/entries/514213-how-do-i-connect-to-my-home-computer-from-outside-by-opening-ports-on-the-home-router  (Requires some technical know-how...)

FWIW, discovery DOES work. it finds my pc every time, regardless of what network i'm on ( i even used a verizon 4g usb to remove the 'routing' component.  It is the connection attempt that crashes the modem

@Victor, I followed the instructions per your link but I'm still only able to connect via wi-fi. It does not work over 4g. I am on Verizon. Since I am on Verizon, does that mean it will not work over 4g since they are not supporting the gtalk network anymore?

I'm on the Razr running gingerbread and get repeated connects/disconnects when attempting to connect to a puter signed up for the auto internet locate. If I type in my IP of the router and use DMZ, I get a connection without any trouble. Of course, I don't have a wan static IP so this will be an issue. I'd love to use the internet locate feature, but it seems to only work if I'm on a wifi network. The 3/4G radio just drops out otherwise.

On 4G (or 3G), my Bionic discovers my PC but fails to connect as described by many above. On attempting to connect, discovery status keeps toggling between "found automatically" and "could not reach". Everything works fine via WiFi.

When I use my Bionic as a hotspot using 4G, Splashtop works fine on my iPad via the Bionic hotspot.

I am using a Verizon Galaxy Nexus that works great using splashtop over a wifi connection. When I try 3G or 4G it will connect and I can see my home pc's desktop but don't have any control when clicking things and I get disconnected after a couple of minutes. Cant wait until this gets resolved.

I am having the same problem with my Droid Razr on Verizon.  Connects with wifi but not over 3G/4G.  It appears from the previous comments dating back 6 months that the devs are not addressing the problem.
