Firewall Settings for Splashtop Remote - ZoneAlarm Extreme Security

1.  Open the main screen of the ZoneAlarm Extreme Security software, then click the “COMPUTER Protected” option.

2.  In the “COMPUTER” tab, click the “Settings” option in the “Advanced Firewall” section.

3.  Next, click the “Advanced Settings” button near the lower right corner.

4.  The Firewall Settings “Advanced” dialog will appear.  Check (enable) the “Allow uncommon protocols at high security” checkbox as shown below, then click the “OK” button.

5.  Click the “Home” icon, indicated below, to go back to the main screen of ZoneAlarm.

6.  Again, as in Step 1, click the “COMPUTER Protected” option.  This time, in the “COMPUTER” tab, select the “View Zones” option in Advanced Firewall.

7.  In the “View Zones” dialog, click the item in the list that represents the “Wireless Router” you use.  Then click the “Edit” button near the lower right corner.

8.  The “Edit Zone” dialog box will display.  Select “Trusted” from the “Zone” drop-down list, then click the “OK” button.

9.  You will be returned to the “View Zones” dialog in Firewall Settings.  Click the “OK” button.

10.  You will be returned to the “COMPUTER” tab.  Click the “Home” icon to return to the main screen of ZoneAlarm Extreme Security.  You are now able to connect your tablet/phone to your computer if you do not use Internet Explorer simultaneously.

However...

If you do need to use Internet Explorer when Splashtop Streamer is installed, then please continue with the steps below.

11.  Click the “INTERNET Protected” function in the main window.

12.  Click “Settings” in the "Web Security" section.

13.  Click another “Settings” button as indicated below.

14.  The General Settings dialog is shown by default in the Secure Browser window, so please click “Advanced Settings.”

15.  In the Advanced Settings dialog, uncheck (disable) the “Block programs that secretly record your keystrokes” checkbox.  (By default, the checkbox is checked as shown below.)  Then click the “OK” button at the bottom of the window.

caution.gif  NOTE:   Enabling this option may cause your computer to "freeze" when opening Internet Explorer;  but disabling this option may open a security hole on your computer.  So, please use your own judgement in deciding the proper option for your particular usage case.
