Locked logon screen and Ctrl+Alt+Delete issue

en10101201

Microsoft Windows can be configured to lock and password-protect an idle computer.  In Splashtop Remote Streamer version 1.2.0.1 and later versions, you can opt to disable the secure logon (the CTRL+ALT+DELETE sequence) for logging on to Windows.  Here is an article from Microsoft that explains how to do it:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/308226

So if you are having trouble unlocking a computer via Splashtop Remote, try to disable the secure logon sequence.  Please make sure to update Splashtop Remote on both devices to v1.2.0.1 or later.

    This is not good enough. It is not the best solution to create a security hole in Windows just to use this App. There should be a solution to unlock the computer some other way.

    Seriously? Looks like it's back to VNC for me then! I was going to give this a go to get remote access to a few servers, but if I can' even lock the desktop or log out then it's a none starter.

    Insane.  I've downloaded several remotes and Splashtop is the best.  BUT, I can't use it for work unless I can press CTRL-ALT-DELETE to log in.  Your competition can do it.  Why can't you!!??

    Working on a solution for Ctrl+Alt+Delete at the Windows login screen right now. It's at the top of our development radar - will post here when he have an update available that solves this!

    My company forces my PC to lockup after on 10 minutes of inactivity. Without a solution to the issue Splashtop is useless.

    @Jeff Generally, the locked screen should be working now, as long as the user is still logged in when the PC is locked. Are you still running into trouble with this?

    I'm still having trouble with this. The ctrl and alt stay lit but hitting the del key does nothing and turns off the previous keys. Using Windows 7 Ultimate.

    OK. So is this being fixed? This application is exactly what we need BUT our computers all MUST lock as part of our security. Thus this key combo is critical. Please advise.

    This is fixed in version 1.2 which is about to be submitted to Apple for approval. It should come out as an update in about 10 days or so.

    Any chance this app can work at the login screen? I use SplashTop to remote in to my home PC, which uses Windows 7 and 4 different user accounts. I hope that makes sense. The desktop application only runs after someone logs in, making it difficult to use the remote unless a user is already logged in on the desktop. Thanks.

    My Win XP computers group policy forces the windows screensaver/screenlock to come on.  When this happens and i try to use splashtop remote to log in to get to my desktop then the splashtop client on my win xp pc crashes.  Anyone else getting this?

    I have 1.3.0.1 on the iPad, and have the latest remote running on my work Windows XP machine. The ctrl-alt-del sequence no longer works and I just see a black screen. If I'm logged onto the machine, then Splashtop Remote shows the desktop just fine. I see the black screen both when I'm on the local network, and when I'm VPNed into the network. I'm ready to buy, but need this to work before I do. I think this was working a couple of weeks ago when I first installed the free app. Thanks

    The same with Michal Simoko. My computer will be locked automatically. This app can work normally when my computer is unlocked. This problem didn't happened in the previous version. Hope you can give me a solution. Thank you very much.

    For the black screen issue, if your display card is Nvidia, please try the solution on this link:

    I just installed v1.5.0.1 on winXP 32bit (domain installed PC) and I have the problem connecting from iPad).

    It appears to me that Splastop doesn't run in the background at the CTRL-ATL-DEL screen, it looks like it loads after login.

    If PC is at the login screen the iPad indicates the host PC is unavailable.

    One year. That's how long the first post on this thread has been around and yet there is still no solution. I want something simple from an app I have paid for. I want to be able to log into a machine remotely and work. I do not want to drive two towns over, unlock my work machine, then drive home to use my iPad. I have the latest versions of both the client an iPad app as IOC today. I can see my machine in the list. I can get to a lock screen. Ctrl alt del simply doesn't work. It does nothing. I've even tried to turn on the onscreen windows assistant keyboard, and that doesn't work. The blue ctrl lights up. Then the alt, then when I hit del, they all go back to normal as if I reset them. Turning off security is NOT AN OPTION. It is NOT A WORKAROUND. Do I have go give a one star and get my money back? I have HUNDREDS of clients I could recommend this to, if only they could log in! ONE YEAR, guys. When can we expect a fix?

    @Peter,

    Could you tell us more about your expectation on "lock mac screen"? You want to connect to a mac which is under logout state? or You want to logout your mac while Splashtop Remote is connecting?

    @Candace,

    What's you Streamer OS? Win7? or xp?

    You are pressing ctrl alt del from a remote connection case, right?

    Are you using Internet discovery feature with a gmail account logged in to get this remote connection for your ipad and computer?

    Are you using 3g or outside wifi to connect to your home computer?

    Have you used RDP or other remote control tools on your computer?

    We did support ctrl alt del from June 2010, your case looks like something wrong or something we lost, we'll try to help to figure it out and hope you can help us on this issue.

    Hi Jeff, I am able to log into my existing session from the log in page. However, when I am done. I want to lock the screen by going to Login window page, I have strange results. End up I have to restart my MacBook to resolve it. May be I did something wrong. I am using Lion. After I click on the Login window Spalshtop Remote, I see my MacBook itself went to log in window. However, Spashtop Remote still continue to have access to the desktop and all the running applications. I disconnect from the Splashtop Remote and still able to reconnect and see the desktop without asking for the login (however, the MacBook is showing the login window at this time.) First strange behavior is that the Splashtop Remote and my MacBook screen is not in sync (I can consider it is a feature). However, when I use my MacBook and try to log in, after password and hit enter, it went to a gray color page. Splashtop Remote works just fine "remotely" with complete desktop access. However, my MacBook becomes total useless. I can't even restart or shut down from the GUI. All I can do is shut down or restart from the Splashtop Remote to bring MacBook back to normal access. It wouldn't be a problem if I am doing 100% remote access. Not sure if it is a feature, a bug or some unexpected behavior. I can handle work around but not restart especially Splashtop Remote lose all access after a restart. All didn't check all different scenarios but hope you got the idea of the problem. Thanks!

    Hi @Jaff, thank you for responding so quickly.

    On my work machine,  I'm running Windows 7 32bit, streamer version 1.6.0.1. Downloaded end of last week.

    I am using the internet discovery feature, using my gmail account - it finds the machine just fine. It gives me the login page, just ctrl-alt-del will not respond when pressed from the iPad.

    My windows 7 machine is wired on my work network, and at home where my iPad is, I'm using wifi - I do not have 3G.

    I have used both RDP and logme in in the past to my work computer, yes.  I've made no other connections to it via iPad. I've first exited logmein before trying after rebooting, and still doesn't work.

    @Candace,

    Have you tried these three keys when you are in office within a same network, and the same result ctrl alt del doesn't work?

    What's the language on your ipad? if it's not English, please try English to see if there's any difference.

    @Peter,

    Your case is a little complicated, I suggest you to open a support ticket to get a specific support by our support staff.

    http://support-remote.splashtop.com/anonymous_requests/new

    Anyway, I'd like to give some clarifications and limitations on the behaviors for your use case to get rid of some of your confusions.

    Splashtop Remote can't connect to Mac streamer if there's no alive screen. So, the following cases Splashtop Remote will be not able to find and connect:

    1.there's no real monitor attached

    2.computer is under "sleep" mode, unless wake it up to be a login screen, then Splashtop Remote can find and connect again.

    3.computer is in logout state, unless click a specific user account to enter a waiting for login screen

    Hope this helps.
